Aw crud. I’m missing another year of fastnachts.

When I was a freshman in art school, my grandmother sent me some fastnachts for Lent, and all my roommates wondered why she included a bag of cocaine with my donuts.

And why the cocaine tasted so sweet.

…Mmm, lard and powdered sugar…

Fat Tuesday?  I went out tonight and someone said that was my nickname.  <rim shot>

The local Cajun place was cooking tonight in a literal sense.  Had some Abita Amber and a cigar on the patio while band played.  There was someone with a booth out back with people throwing hatchets at a target, 5 throws for $5.  I had to show folks my phone of that old Johnny Carson video with Ed Ames throwing a hatchet.

Then for dinner another Amber, oysters on the halfshell, fried shrimp and shrimp etouffee.  It was good and I'm stuffed.  I'm so stuffed I left the party and came home to write this.

Sorry, no motorcycle content to add.

And if you want to see that video....well

I made red beans and rice, we had paczki for dessert.  Made some Gumbo for tomorrow (I'm not Catholic, but I'll play along).
STL does Mardi Gras right.  I am looking forward to a couple weeks of 'friday night fish fry'.  Round here, that's a competitive sport between the churches.

We look forward to the annual fish fry season.  ..... out here in Franklin County, we have quite the selection.

During the Depression the Catholics in eastern MI convinced their bishop to declare muskrats seafood  so they could have an alternative dish for the fish fries.Unfortunately the Cardinal got wind of the heresy and put a stop to it before too many of the faithful were led astray.
