I just got off the phone from talking to Randy and he said the weather is good. He said they are calling the gathering "Hell or high water." as the original venue is still flooded and won't be open until Sept.

Wow, was that fun! Spectacular weather; after a near drowning the day B4. The Rossi's, separate bikes, came through some really nasty weather on Friday. I would have parked it and used more throttle, on Sat.

Great turnout (~60+) - AND Jim Hamlin, on his bigger than a Buffalo (1500? 18? 2kcc?). Gadzoox, that's a lot of motorcycle.

Randy, Natalie + an extra friend pitching in made the event best. This time on short notice. Heavy rains @ the original site caused a closure. They made it all happen @ home.  Kudos on the Pulled Pork! I may have embarrassed myself.   R3~

…Come Hell or High Water…
The New Hampshire One-Day Guzzi Rally
Steven Rossi

These days, the weather is as consistent as a bowl of Jello. From heat waves to mudslides, to tornado touchdowns, lightning strikes and forest fires in between. Mother Nature is obviously a bit confused right now…and as she tries to figure it out, event organizers like New Hampshire MGNOC State Rep. Randy Tefft and his wife Natalie have been forced to do likewise.

Around these parts, we just endured the wettest July on record. And while we didn’t have to worry about our homes plunging off a cliff face, excessive rain has washed out more than just roads and bridges. Like the Surry Mountain Lake-Beach Recreation Area, the traditional home of the New Hampshire One-Day.

As a result of excessive flooding, a week before the Rally, the Park was unexpectedly shut down…for the remainder of the year! It seems that the water in the swimming area began to rise. Rapidly. So much so, that it was approaching not only the entry gate but the Pavilion where the Moto Guzzi gathering normally took place. If you’ve ever been there, you can obviously appreciate how dire the situation was. We’re talking across a rather expansive area, and up quite a height difference.

So Randy had Natalie had to act fast and find a new home for the event. As a former police officer, perhaps Randy’s training allowed him to calmly and logically assess the situation…under such pressure. The end result was a quick…Moto Guzzi gear shift…to their home in Keene. Gracious neighbors agreed to cooperate, yours truly and Mass. Rep. Tom Halchuk were pressed into service to help get the word out online…and through the grapevine…and a Port-John was ordered.

Then a couple of pop-up tents were pressed into service, and folks were advised to bring their own chairs if possible, because obviously, the convenience of Surry Mountain picnic tables was no more. As were the barbecue grills. So for your $10 entry fee, you enjoyed catered trays of pulled pork, chicken, sausage, pasta salad, cole slaw, dessert, drinks and more…instead of hamburgers and hot dogs. The Teffts may have had to deal with high water, but it clearly wasn’t hell. They, too, rose to the occasion. Obviously…

And the Guzzi gang showed up in force. Thirty-nine machines from Mandello de Lario arrived on Boston Place. Along with some of the other, usual suspects such as BMW, etc. Bearing license plates from New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, Maine and Pennsylvania.

   Here’s what was there…

…all essentially in Randy’s driveway, and the road out in front.

So we, Guzzisti, got to while away a couple of hours as a group down a side street in suburban New Hampshire on Saturday, July 22. In fact, with the bikes being closer to the eats, it allowed for even more tire kicking and tall tale telling. With old relations rekindled and new friendships formed. As is Moto Guzzi tradition.

   Come hell or high water…
