V85TT starter button no go.
« on: September 10, 2023, 03:56:10 PM »
My new to me 2020 V85TT, has this issue where the starter will not engage when the button is push, but it always does start after a couple of tries. Well today getting ready to live IMOC it took many tries before it started and that was after I hit the off button a couple of times. Will a new switch cure this? I have check  the battery connections. My wife thinks I should have kept the VStrom.

The spade connector that goes onto the solenoid is quite weak and frail in it’s engagement, get a test light and see if you are getting current to there when you push the button, if you are then work on improving the integrity of the connection there.

Jump the battery to the starter and see if the starter will crank when supplied…(make sure the damn thing is in neutral).

If you suspect the battery, hook up a set of good jumper leads from your car and see if that cures the issue.

If/when you check the battery lead terminals, check BOTH ends of BOTH leads.

Thanks I'll check those ares. When I got home I shut it off and it fired right up, fired right up this morning, It wasn't until I fiddled with the stop button that the switch worked.

Try to spray the button and off switch with preferably Deoxit or electrical cleaner. Very common on v7 series.
