Pete Roper Sloppage plates
« on: October 22, 2023, 06:28:34 PM »
I'm looking for one or two sloppage plates for the older narrow sump engines. Anyone know if Pete Roper is making them? I don't want to order them from Guzzibits.

Don't know whether Pete produced them for narrow motors, but when building my '85, Pete said it was entirely unnecessary unless it was a maximum effort racer. I suppose if it didn't have it, I'd install the LM sump spacer, or the deep V aftermarket pan as I did.
Something wistful and amusing, yet poignant.

These are Lemans 1000 motors that already have a spacer. The one I really want it for is a fairly wild motor. Not necessary, but it would be nice to have that extra insurance.

Pressureangle on the V11 forum is still producing them & he has Pete's blessing

I'm unsure of the difference between the narrow sump engines you refer too.

AFAIK they are installed between the crankase and the top of the sump spacer & their isn't any difference in dimensions between the "narrow sump" and "broad sump" at that location.

The difference with the broadsump is the spacer flares out, so it's only the bottom of the spacer and sump dimensions that differ

Pete's plates wont work on a LM 1000 without a bit of extra cutting for the internals.I got a new  plate very cheaply from someone who couldn't figure out how to fit it to his V11  ( !) in the hope that it would go but sold it on instead.
HMB make one for the older engines https://hmb-moto.de/Oil-sump-baffle-plate but by the time you have paid the shipping to the US ...it's also aluminum which some would say is not ideal.

I have one on my LM1000  been in for 10 years.   also its stainless not alloy. Pete has never made alloy ones to by knowledge.  I suspect these are copies of which there are many.

He did.  I had a sloppage  sheet on my Carb'd Sport 1100.

The HMB ones are not copies...their own design specifically for the Tonti engines. They are the only alloy ones I have seen.Pete's early proto was alloy but he changed to stainless due to fears of fracturing through engine vibes.
Pete Roper  used to make plates for both types of engines to my best knowledge but gave up production on both.
Now the only ones that might be available are for the V11  engines and they can be had from V11 forum with his blessings ...but they are out of stock and there is some debate about how many to commission as demand is now very low.The V11 type will absolutely not fit a tonti engine without mods as I found out and it's  better to either go with the right pattern as adapting the V11 to a tonti means big gaps and holes which kind of defeats the whole object of the exercise.
The use of a plate on a sidecar machine would also be useful as the oil and fuel levels shift a lot on cornering whereas on a solo they dont.
Gutsibits may well have both patterns available.A looksee on their website would confirm that. They are expensive but stainless like Pete's.
I'm surprised at how cheap the HMB ones are...most of their parts are expensive but very well thought out and engineered.

The cut outs are quite different though as I found out.
No big deal as I bought very cheap and very quickly found several buyers as V11 are out of stock so it found it's rightful home very quickly !

Thanks Mike.

The HMB version is also a possibility, and it's not a Roper Sloppage knock off.
