Norge owners do you keep all hard luggage mounted?
« on: January 15, 2024, 08:00:18 AM »
I currently only ride with my top box.  I’m not touring so I keep side bags off since they are kind of heavy and make the bike wider.

But thinking of keeping them on too in the even where I might want to stow more, like if I ride to Pickleball lol.

Curious if others keep all bags mounted? Side bags I assume want to evenly distribute the load?

Well.
I guess it’s as simple as saying, if I’m going somewhere and I don’t need the the side cases for what I’m taking ?
Then I leave them at home.
Usually if I’m heading away, I would prefer to have 3 cases lightly loaded, than one case jam packed. It does not matter if the bike is wider.

Use to ride with them on all the time but in the last couple years I have started to leave them off unless I need them. Do keep the trunk on because it is so handy.

I leave them on. I don't have a top box and like having some storage room to carry essentials. Plus I want the ability to lock away my helmet when I stop somewhere.

I will take my trunk off for day trips but my side bags stay on all the time. Rain suit is always in there and some other comfort items like sun screen. They don’t make a difference to me on ride quality but I do think the air flow around me is smother without to top box.

I take the side bags off for about half the time just to be able to park the bikes closer together in the garage…otherwise they stay on most of the year.  Today they are off just to get the bikes packed a bit tighter in the garage.  I bought a top case a few years ago but rarely use it.

I mostly do, unless I need to take them off due to garage space. I like them for the utility, unexpected errand run on the way, etc. I have also grown accustom to having them as a buffer in the rare case of a cage wanting to share my lane.

I've taken mine off and rely on a top box, but soon I will mount a set of Tusk Medium hard cases to replace the factory bags. I love the looks, but not the function of the factory bags. Tusk cases are waaaaay narrower (garage-friendly for tight garages), but don't hold as much.

Been commuting with just the top box since I got the bike last year, for my purposes it's easier than using the side bags.

Thanks for the replies. I almost forgot that the Norge doesn’t come with a top box. I bought mine used and it already had one. If it did not have a top box, I would have the hard bags on all the time.

While not a Norge my bikes with panniers and/or top cases I leave them on because they don't do me any good sitting in my garage when I'm out on the bike. Lots of time I have been out for a ride and stopped at the store to pick up fixins' for dinner or grabbed a case or three of beer while I was out.

I keep mine on though I would remove one bag when it was used for a commuter which made it easier to split lanes. I have dropped the bike a couple of times and was glad I had the bags because I’d rather have them take the impact than more delicate parts like the front fairing.

Saddlebags are always on. I can expect to peel off layers during the day as it warms up.

Makes sense. Mine do no good sitting in my closet.  I put the side bags on tonight and actually needed the extra space. Leaving them all on.
