1986 Yamaha SRX-6 value
« on: January 28, 2024, 09:24:01 AM »
I am strongly considering selling my beloved SRX-6 after 30 years. While not perfect it is in good overall condition for age, the paint and seat are perfect. It has always been in a heated garage. I removed the stock signals and mirrors so it has small LED signals and bar-end mirrors. I have the original parts. It has new sprockets and chain and new tires. It rides beautifully and has zero issues. 13K miles. Any thoughts on fair value? It's in Reno and you can see it if you search Rider Magazine SRX-6, it was in their Rider Retrospective before the mods. Thanks.

The SRX600 is a very interesting bike.  It has much more value as a cult classic than as a functional every day rider.

IMO, it is one of the nicest looking bikes ever made.  Great garage factor!

Current value is definitely limited by the lack of an electric starter, and the fact that most people who know what the bike is and admire it belong the a group rapidly beoming known as "Old Farts."

I've long wondered about filing the XT600E engine into that frame.  But the SRX engine inside the SRX frame looks like a much higher fit that the XT motor in the XT frame..

What it will sell for is obviously determined by what the buyer will pay.  $1000 to $4500?

On the SRX......yes cool bike. I ve had one and loved it. I would say realistic price is $2500 to $4000 and I don't think you can get $4k unless its a real cherry and the right buyer. I sold a nice one for $3800.

$2500 -ish for a rider in good condition.

I've always wanted one of those.

Seems like a fun machine!

I had one of these back in the 80’s. A fun back road machine. Probably somewhere around $3000-$3500, but please post a couple of pics.

Hagerty says my clean SR500 is worth around 3500.00. I couldn’t get that if I threw in Elvis. It’s going gratis to a forum member in Tuscany on a shipping container next month just to get it out of the garage. I hope the SRX gets way more attention.

I've posted this up on the SRX600 Facebook page for you.

XT600E engine will fit, obviously a wee bit of extra wiring necessary, but the oil tank gets in the water of the starter. A few people have " adjusted" the oil tank to suit.

A well set up SRX600 will kick start reliably from cold or hot. Just can be a SOB when warm.

You never hear of kickstart XT600s being difficult. Or maybe you do.

Sold mine last year in the UK for £2800 but it had a mildly tuned and recent full rebuild engine.

Cheers

My experience exactly with a 1975 Honda XL350.  Warm was a complete wild card.  I actually started planning my trips so it would be a few hours or only a couple minutes before I had to start it again.

My 1985 Honda XL350R was much more predictable, but there were reports of those things being impossible to start when "warm."

I flipped a complete but rough barn find (motor turned over & had compression) for $500 a few years ago . I hear it’s being vintage raced by a retired Air Force gent in Spain where he retired to . I had thought of keeping it but kicking it over without the spark plug in it was too much for my knee replacement!
