Colorado/Utah Western Adventure NAR
« on: May 19, 2024, 05:04:52 PM »
It’s May, and it is time to start thinking about rallys, or in this case, Not a Rally.  This year it is Colorado’s turn to host the Western Adventure NAR.  The event will be held Thursday Sept. 5 through Sunday Sept. 8.  The question is, where?  Thus, the poll.

The Colorado event has always been held at the Ouray KOA, and it is a great location.  But this year I am contemplating a new venue in Woodland Park.  There are both camping options and cabin/motel options in the area, and plenty of good roads.  I am looking for some input FROM THOSE WHO WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND.  Please don’t vote if you aren’t planning to come.  But if you think you can make it, please vote!

Hope to see lots of you there, wherever we end up going.  I hope to make a decision by early June, so vote soon.

Keep in mind that US HWY 50 is closed indefinitely between Gunnison and Montrose at Blue Mesa reservoir bridge. It is a 6 hour detour regardless if you go north or south around the detour.

Alan, I am happy with either choice. I was in Estes Park a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed the area.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Hey Alan,

Thanks for taking the time to plan another ride.  I am good with either location, although we did Ouray last time, so a new destination is appealing.

Either way I look forward to riding with you and the other Guzzi Guys in September.

Chris.

The KOA in Ouray it is 200 plus mile closer for me. But I need to ask since I am relatively new to this forum. What is the Western Adventure NAR?

Simply a gathering of Guzzi (or whatever) riders that takes place the weekend after Labor Day every year, but the location alternates between Utah and Colorado.  We ride, kick tires, eat, drink, pontificate and either camp or motel as one prefers.
NAR means “not a rally”, which loosely means it is an informal gathering, you are responsible for yourself, and there are no fees, no tee shirts, prizes etc.  Hope you can come!

Yea I would like to come. It is 640 mile oneway from SE Arizona and then the following weekend there is the Our 39th Annual Bavarian Mountain Weekend Rally in Chama, New Mexico.

I have to work on the wife to see if she wants to come along. I would like to do both without coming home that would be nearly 2 weeks. Not that I mind but the bride may have issues if she is with.

We have a 6k mile trip coming up starting June 7th. I will see how we survive 35 days on bikes.

Hey John,

How was the Lake City Cutoff (CR26)?

I know they're running pilot vehicles and the road isn't really all that great.

It's more of an adventure for me to return to the front range foothills, so I vote for Woodland Park. Not that Ouray is getting old, but it feels like my backyard.

Anyway, I have fond memories of the area. Gail and I got engaged at the Cripple Creek NAR.

It was about 2 hrs from Gunnison KOA to the park entrance

Went through there last summer.  Very nice.  Close to Manitou Springs.  Pikes Peak.  Pine Valley Rd quite entertaining.  It's a shorter trip to get there from the East.

I'll cast my vote for Woodland Park. There's some pretty nice roads in this area and it would be good to try a change of scenery. Might even draw a few more riders from the states to the east of us.

Woodland Park will be fun.  That area was good back in 2015 when we were at the KOA in Cripple Creek.  Plenty of good riding.  Lots of dirt/gravel county roads for the 850 TT and Stelvio riders.   :bike-037:

At the local gas station yesterday I encountered a couple on two bikes. He was riding a V100 Mandello. They're from the Denver area. I invited them to check in here and attend the NAR.

I did the same thing last night at the local drive in here in the Springs. A couple noticed my Guzzi belt buckle and we started talking. Turns out they're from Guffey, just to the southwest of Woodland Park. They're hoping to attend also.

www.diamondcampgrou nd.com

Also where (If you don't want to camp):

They have nice 1 and 2 bedroom cabins and are located right next to the Diamond Campground

Other Details:

My wife hit me up yesterday about going to NAR. She would like to know if others are bringing the significant other? Oh that’s not your bike. It is spouse, partner, etc.
