Hello folks,
My pal has a 1978 Cali, he asked me to come and find out why his headlamp won't work.
So, no dip, main or sidelight, rear light works fine. Headlamp flash works.
No voltage to the headlamp connectors that go on the bulb, until, you remove the bulb, then there's 12v to the connectors, put the bulb back into the equation, and no voltage. Take a wire from the battery, bulb lights up, take a wire from the ground on the battery to the ground wire, nothing, the ground (earth) is fine. remove the plug connector, voltage there, earth there. Replaced the bulb, still doesn't work, replaced the relay, still doesn't work, all wires to the bulb in the correct position.
To me, I think when the bulb is in place somewhere down the line the current drawn is hi and a bad connection is breaking down. I told him to check the switch, he said no voltage to the switch, I have just replied to him and told him to try for voltage with the bulb removed, awaiting a reply. I suspect there will be 12v with the bulb taken out of the equation.
The headlamp was working before the bike went away for winter, and to be honest, someone has been in there before, the wiring behind the headlamp is a rats nest.
Anyone had something similar?.
Thanks in advance.
Alan.
