V85TT urgent service after tire change?
« on: June 20, 2024, 10:23:33 AM »
Being three hours away from a dealer is no fun.  Changed tires and the urgent service light popped up. I had done one ride, about 5 miles after tire install. Washed the bike. All was good. Realized I had not checked air pressure in rear tire, just popped it on the rim. It was at 22 or so.  Filled up  to 40 and went for a ride. that's when the urgent service popped up. Traction control and abs light are not on, but maybe it detected the difference where as the low tire wasn't that much off the worn tire?  What pops up when the calibration needs re-done?  I am getting ready to change the right switch gear because the mode button stopped working so I have not been able to try it yet. Bike rides fine and no power limits or anything like that.  I do run the upmap and it allows you to check cel codes but not service messages like this. I'm in the St. Louis area if anyone knows where I can get the code read.  thanks

You probably need to recalibrate for the ABS & traction control.   Look in your manual - easy procedure.

I got the switch changed and did the calibration.  No dice.  service light still on.  I wish the code would show up in the upmap app. Gonna call a local guy and se if he can pull the codes. Otherwise road trip to Cadre I guess.

Long shot here. Disconnect the battery for 5 minutes and reconnect.

Also touch the cables together as well. Worked for me on my V7 Special when it went wonky after pulling the left fork to fix a leaking seal. I am sure it had to do with the speed sensor which I had to remove to take the fork off the bike.

Check to make sure you didn't mess up the speed sensor.
It will show that if you blow a fuse so check them too.

I haven't pulled the battery yet so Ill try that next.  Gotta check the air filter anyway and didn't know if I would have to enter the code so I didn't do that yet. I can enter the code now that the switch is changed. I would think if a sped or abs sensor was off those lights would light up as well. And it said it successfully did the calibration. I'll go through the fuses, that would be weird with everything else seeming to work properly but IDK.  I guess I have sundays project. Took my Honda Fury for a ride this morning instead, and then the grom just because it's super fun for a quick ride. I've been on the V85 so much it'll force me to ride some of the other bikes. KLR up next.

As I recall, that's what I got when the horn fuse blew.

There is a dealer in that area that gave up Guzzi in IL, maybe they can still use their PADS

I called Flying Tiger in St.Louis that used to sell them and they told me MG took all the diag stuff when the left the brand.  I did not call moto italia on the IL side but I imagine it's the same thing. I'm gonna try euro cycles on tuesday who carries piaggio scooters and see if they can help.  otherwise road trip, and I'll probably ride the v85 there.  it has oil gas and power.  should be ok I think.  There is Harpers in west MO, but idk if he does any work on the newer ones and cadre is only an hour longer drive from me.

You are overlooking something simple.
From the original post, it seems that it was fine after the tire change and first ride. Right?
Then you washed the bike and the light went on. If right I suspect you drownded the wheel speed sensor. If so, remove it and dry gently with a hair dryer or set it in the sun for a day. If that works, remove it and coat with some sealer.
