v50II Start Up
« on: November 07, 2024, 11:59:30 AM »
After nearly 3 years is sitting idle, I decided to startup the v50. I put a new battery on, turned on the gas, chock on and hit the starter button. It barely turned over and started right up. The problem Im having is one cylinder fouls the plug over a period of time. I take the plug out, clean/dry it or replace with a new plug and it fine for a while. I don't understand why the plug keep fouling?? Charley from Antiedam went through it years ago but Ive always had that problem. Could it be a weak coil?

How long do you leave the "choke" on? Use it as little as possible - start the bike with it, then shut it off and feathered the throttle until it idles, don't let the bike sit there warming up on "choke".

Guzzi fitted "choke" jets that are much to large, dropping down to #60s helps a little.

The original coils weren't great when new and 40+ years can't have helped them. Coils from a Ducati Monster are a direct bolt-on, minor wiring changes are necessary. I used a pair from an '01 M600.

You might also try Iridium spark plugs.

If the gas is three years old that won't help.

I've had problems with the rubber seat at the bottom of the choke plungers not sealing. If you pull one and look at the base you can see how worn it is. When new they are flat rubber (rubber'ish substance, at least).

t's a quick 2 minute thing to check.
