V7 850 engine warning light flash at high speed
« on: March 19, 2025, 12:37:37 PM »
I’m not usually a “fast” rider, but today I pushed it a little over 80mph and it started sounding really laboured, followed by the engine warning light flashing. I naturally backed the speed off and the light went away and all seemed fine.

I’ve read people have gone 100-120mph on these things and it felt nowhere near getting to those speeds! Could it be restricted in some way? (Bought second hand)

It has Mistrals with the dbkillers out if that is of importance.

Was it definitely the engine light? Could it have been the RPM warning light?

Shift light was my first guess too.

Traction control would be second guess.

If its like the new V85 its an adjustable red line indicator. I think they come set low when new but you can change the RPM it starts flashing or just ignore it. Page 23,854 in your owners manual.

V7s are the same. Rev light comes on low during break-in, dealer or owner can set it higher to whatever they want

Definitely orange engine light (right side of dash) flashing. Not the “eagle” GEAR SHIFT warning. I have already reprogrammed that to be higher than the original run in mode.

Hmmm, ok, then we need more info.

Market?

Any other symptoms?

What gear? 6th?

Level or up/down hill?

Fuel quality? Any chance of water?

Plug wires and caps in good shape?

No other issues. 6th gear on a level highway. I always use premium E5. Recently had service (new plugs) January.

I’ve done the evap cap mod which got rid of some running issues. Only slight issue is there’s been a bit of a noticeable vacuum when unscrewing the tank lid.

Boom, remove cap and retest.

A tank that's not venting properly could strain pump and starve fuel. It's a longshot but might as well check.

I'm not familiar with the EVAP mod, but I'm skeptical it was a problem in the first place. But I'm a hippy mechanic who's never confirmed an actual problem with that system.
