850-T3 Ring end gap.
« on: May 09, 2025, 01:16:23 PM »
So it's raining and I'm in my garage looking up ring end gap specs for the T3.

Guzziology sends me to the shop manual.

The shop manual shows:

0.3÷0.45 for top three rings

0.25÷0.40 for the oil ring

WTF???

Google doesn't even know what to make of that notation.

Anyone versed in the old European languages who can translate?

Thanks

Rule of thumb    3"Bore   .012"  top ring  all others .010"
                         3.5Bore  .014  top       All Others  .012"
                          4.0 Bore  .016" top all others  .014

      Hope this helps.

0.3÷0.45 for top three rings

0.25÷0.40 for the oil ring

.30 mm = .012", .45 mm = .018" so top three ring end gap .012" - .018"
.25 mm = .010", .40 mm = .016" so oil ring end gap .010" - .016"

Yes, but it's Nik so I looked in LM3 supplement 850cc top rings.30-.45 metric  oil ring .25-.40 metric

WOW, same as Charlie posted, kit should have had specs when supplied

So the confusion on my part was not realizing the draftsman used the division symbol to indicate he was specifying a range between the two numbers. The numbers were straight end gap in millimeters.
