Our man Nolan Woodbury recently talked to Matt Forslund and he confirmed that, YES, the legendary Datil NM Rally is happening August 14-17!!

We'll see you there in 3 months...

There is a group of AZ Guzzisti's that go every year.  We will probably stay at the Eagle Guest Ranch (Rally site...) or the infamous "LARGO MOTEL" in Quemado, which is about 30 minutes down the road from the rally site.

If 50-75 people show up, the odds are pretty good that someone will WIN the give-away Guzzi, usually valued at about $3,000-$3,500.  One year, my neighbor Kevin won a cool, blue 850 T-3 one year...and he was a happy camper.

A 100 bucks for three days of camping, food, good camaraderie is not bad. Plus some nice riding. I can easily spend that on a good diner with my wife and that only last a few hours.

Hm, I'll put this on my bucket list. But having to ride thru Texas and the gulf coast in August to get there won't work. It'll have to be in conjunction with a more northerly trip sometime--Have Fun!!

Yes...riding from Central Florida to Datil, NM in the summer, across the Gulf Coast and Texas would be a "SLOG" of biblical proportions!!

At the current price of tires and how long they don't last, I'd be trucking it. Ride the mountains for a couple of weeks on nice, round tires and then truck it back home. No truck, Uhaul has a great cycle trailer, and it's reasonable.

Last June, we rented a U-HAUL to trailer two Guzzi's from Phoenix to the MGNOC National Guzzi Rally in John Day, OR.

Good decision as we would have DIED riding across the Nevada Desert.   It took us all day just to get to Tonopah, NV, where we stayed overnight. 

Then, it was still another 8 hour drive to get to John Day.      No shame in using a trailer....

The bride and I will be there, it is 312 miles and easy morning ride. Leave early to beat the heat. After the first 90 miles of hwy and interstate the road get great thru the mountains. I am sure there will be a little rain but nothing to prevent some fun.
