Modify db killer agostini
« on: June 04, 2025, 12:50:54 AM »
Hi,

I have an moto Guzzi Nevada 750ie 2008 with agostini exhaust.
I run it without db killer and it sounds amazing.
Only problem is that it is a bit too loud. I put the db killer in, now it just sound too quiet 🤔 I know , that’s the point of db killer but i was thinking, is there any way to make it a little bit louder ( deeper sound ) whit the db killer in ? Maybe drill some holes ind the db killer, cut some of the length of the db killer, other advice ? Or is it a no go ?

Anybody had same issue and what did you do ?

Drilling holes in it will make it louder, how many holes and how much louder I don't know but I would try just drilling a couple of holes and see how loud that makes it then take it from there.

Here's an old DB killer I found in a box of parts that I bought, don't know what it was from but you get the idea;

Yes, more holes make it louder. If you google DB Killer Modification you will get scores of hits, maybe even a few youtube videos.

 Thanks guys

I tried google it , and lots of different advise. Some say drilling holes gives a weird sound and some say I need to cut a few inches of the pipe of db killer for a deeper sound. I have ordered a new pair of db killers solid it goes wrong I have a 2. Try 😊 think I’ll try with drilling holes, if it doesn’t help, try to shorten pipe…

I have three Leo Vince mufflers. One came with three DB Killers. One with no holes and longer. The other two with holes and one was shorter. The one I got for my V85 just came with one installed and its fairly quiet, barely louder that stock. So its all in or all out. I guess you will just have to experiment. Simce I plan to tour on my V85 I will keep it quiet.

Yes, shortening it will also work but probably a bigger difference than drilling holes.

I had a couple of Harleys with stock mufflers. They sounded more like a sewing machine than a motorcycle. I read a thread that talked about enlarging the holes in the baffle and adding a few more. Worked great, added a little rumble without being loud. Another Harley I got had a Screaming Eagle mufflers. It sounded great until an hour had passed and then became obnoxious. On this one I welded in diverters to take the exhaust glasses outside the baffles and then back through the enlarged holes and then out. I did the same thing quieter without being overly loud. Just experiment, start small.

My solution was to cut off about 50% of the length for the perfect sound.

You can find DB killers for small money on Amazon. I think I would start with one of those before trying the modify the one you have. Also saw Mufflers for 40 bucks there. Compare to the big names for 10 to 20 tines that!
