Knocking sound when clutch pulled 2010 v7 café.

Hi, I have looked for a while now and can't seem to fins the right answer. In neutral when cold and the clutch is pulled engine rpm lowers. When the bike is warm it lowers significally more with a knocking sound from the engine. If clutch is even hotter(city riding) the engine oil light starts blinking untill the bike stalls. I thought it was the throwout bearing so I replaced it but to my surpise the old one was in good condition. The only thing I can think of is the crank thrust bearings but seems a bit early since it has less then 30000km's. (The valves are also properly adjusted with the same issue before and after)

Really hope to get to the bottom of the issue. Thanks!

Thrust bearings can go out any time depends alot on oil & filter changes, but that sounds like the issue. Motor slowing is a dead giveaway.
My best guess w/o inspection.

Yeah, thats my tought too but I don't know how to check properly. Removed the generator cover but didn't see anthing wierd. But I dont get that it's fine when you start it and then gets progresivly worse.

There is a .pdf that explains how to check the thrust bearings. It involves pulling the starter and measuring how much the ring gear (connected to the crank shaft) moves forward and back.

You don't need the tooling to do this, but a dial indicator "should" be used. A decent caliper could be used. As a test to see if your moving the ring gear aft. Pull on ring gear with a hook or the like to get it all the way aft, push forward with your fingers to see if it moves, it won't move much, mainly feel it move. Pull aft again and this time use the clutch hand lever (or your fingers) as in the .pdf. Measure all the way aft, then all the way forward with your measuring tool.

Thanks Tom! Will try it out! If it is the dreaded thrust bearings, what is the procedure? Complete dismantle and new thrust bearings or new engine? And how do I avoid it happening again. Thanks!
