I tried going back to work….
« on: June 15, 2025, 06:16:09 PM »
At my age of 67 because I was bored!  Five months later I am big time stressed out so I gave my two weeks notice.  I’m done!  Back to retirement I go.
Ps.  What happen to the search function on here as I can’t get it to work using my iPhone????

You have options Bob. In my case, I didn't work for six years after retirement. But I got all my projects done and then got bored. I got a part time job delivering parts for NAPA. Doesn't pay much but it's enough to supplement my S.S. Easy, no stress. There's other part time jobs out there too.

Yeah, my employer sent manufacturing overseas in January, and my job went with it. I'm aiming to take SS a year from then when I turn 70.

What did you do, [bobrebos1]? I'm a QA guy finding that regulatory compliance has gone out of fashion.

That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

I worked in OSHA, DOT, and environmental compliance.  Too stressful for me at my age anymore

I really enjoyed working in the Instrumentation and control field
I would like to go back short term e.g. for commissioning

Yowsa!

As one who used to work in the Nuclear Steam System service and repair industry, that does sound like a stressful occupation.

Amazing how often compliance with regulations makes complying with laws of nature, physics, economics, and science very difficult.

"But the rule book says it should be a square circle!  It's right there on page 267, paragragh 6.3.5.2.1, subsection 3b!"

I just retired, officially February first. Army forces you out at 60. Knowing this we planned financially and I am taking a stab at not working. I'll draw SS next year, and should be G2G.

I have more projects than I can list, and SWMBO's demands keep me from doing all but the most important. I'll likely never run out.

It's a fine line. I'm a bit bored day to day, but that is from working 12+ hours a day, and getting out of the house by 0530 5-6 days a week, and not getting home till 18-1900 every night. NOW, I still get up at 0530 most days, but can ease into the day most days, and the idea of throwing myself into the myriad of projects and honey do's at the old work slavish days just is NOT gonna happen, BUT...... I feel a bit unproductive and bored when it is not iron to the grindstone....

NO complaints though. I have already taken up two long rides, back to back, 2000 in April and 3000 in May. 8 days for the first, and 14 for the second. That's all that is planned for the year so far, though I do want to take a couple day trips and just get out on the bike and ride 3-4 hours a day. It will take time, and navigating the jaundice eyed lady.

I can see myself working again, but in an area of interest.  I fantasize about being an 'oil change guy' or head over to the local Guzzi Dealer and see whats what, but I am more concerned that my workaholic tendency will latch on that bone and my options will self limit. Right now that is what I like most, that I have options and can largely do what and when I want.

I'm blessed and fortunate, no complaints. My wife does enough of that............... ..
