V40 Capri restoration
« on: July 03, 2025, 07:07:16 PM »
Hello, I am currently restoring a V40 capri.  It has a broken oil ring and I am having difficulty finding a replacement set.  does anyone have an idea where I might find a set of STD rings or two?

Are they the same as V50 ie 74mm ??....I know the bore is same at 74 & stroke is shorter for V40, but do you know if they use same ring sets ?

V40 Capri is a nice looking machine. I've seen a couple on feeBay recently.

Now there's a good thought.  I shouldn't imagine they'll differ even though the piston crowns might (4-valve?).

You probably already checked the usual sites.   I found the correct rings for my V65 (a stepped profile) from http://www.deves.com
Thanks to Chuck from IN for the tip.

Every day is a school day..
Am I correct in thinking the V40 Capri is 4-valve and the V40 Targa is 2-valve? Any other differences? Hmm, curiosity is driving me to Google more.

Do the same for the Targa (and spot the difference)!  :cheesy:

A bellypan isn't a sufficient difference.

I've got the Targa - two valve as per the previous post. It's a late one ( 1991) and has the LM5 / Targa 750 fairing, but is either missing or didn't have the bellypan.

I'm guessing when Mandello realised the four valves detonate (well the Lario did anyway)  they went back to two valve?
