Toolkit advice

I want some help putting together a toolkit for my bike for and field repairs, I have an idea of what parts that I might need in the field (Spare clutch cable, 2 x Spark plugs, shifter bolts)but need some advice on tools and other parts I’m forgetting

Have you taken a look at the other ‘what tools do you carry’ threads that exist in the forum? There are quite a few from previous years.

Metric wrenches and sockets,pliers regular and needle nose,Allen wrenches and sockets,screwdrivers,electrical tape,gorilla tape,cable ties,electrical test tools,tire inflater and tube or plug kit,tire irons,razor knife,vice grips,spare metric nuts and bolts.Tow insurance ,credit card.I have used all of the above at one time or other,if you carry all this stuff you may never need them but they can help you solve problems that you couldn’t without them.Also wire snips.

Don't leap to "moron" status yet ... you have plenty of time to finish earning it properly.

With my Eldo I carried a fair amount of stuff.

When I got my Bassa and asked this question, the reply was "A credit card, a bottle of your favorite booze, and a cell phone".

Which makes sense, actually, because when I had my Eldo I was too young/broke to have a credit card, and cell phones had not been invented.

chill dude.  Don't feel bad, there are plenty to do that for you.

See  what the search function does.  BTW- one sparkplug should suffice.   

This is just a recurring theme.  More than half the people are OK.

Leatherman pocket tool.
Electrical tape
Couple feet of electrical wire
Adjustable wrench and players
A couple zip ties
Fuses
Tire plugging or patch kit
Spare ignition/luggage keys.

All this will fit in a small pouch.

Yeah, that's my contingency plan.  I carry all that crap that others have mentioned here and the only thing I've needed/used in the last 40 years is a tire plug kit.  Prior to the last 40, the only time I had to pull a wrench on the road was when I had harleys.  While I'm tempted to remove the roadside repair inventory from the bikes I know as soon as I do it I'll have a problem.

Those who simply carry a card and cell phone sure grind my gears, lol.

Maybe I’m too poor, impatient, DIY, or reckless, but I carry 5 lb worth of repair kit and have needed or at least used nearly everything I carry at some point on my trips, and I’m not even counting my overseas trips, all of which I felt quite unprepared kit-wise.

Sockets, combo wrenches, tire irons, plug/patch kit, multimeter, Leatherman (for the needle-nose pliers), Swiss Army knife (for the spring puller), pick, straw, paint marker, stubby adjustable wrench, axle wrenches, screwdriver handle with bits, Allen wrenches, safety wire, JB Weld, channel lock pliers (hmmm, no need for the Leatherman, now that I think about it), head lamp, shock wrench, feeler gauge, thread gauge, spare tube, spare cable or repair kit, spare headlight, a couple spare bolts…

…electric pump, extra hand pump, jumper/battery bank…

I see your Robert Smith and raise you an Andrew W.K.—if I feel the need for the tool kit, but not the ABS, then the ABS weight is unnecessary, thus weight ready to be unloaded.

Now how did you know I'm a fan of The Cure (not so much the released singles stuff)?   

Point of note: I prefer to at least carry some tools. I once needed to take a set of rear brake pads with me on a 4500 mile trip, to change in the South of France- that bike ate them for some weird reason.

Easy—Taking into consideration such a negative perspective to my comment, an estimated age range, and that you’re based in the UK, I presumed you were fond of post-punk Goth rock…or nihilist industrial. Choosing the mainstream pop over any obscure industrial band names for fear of scaring off the older folks, I simply prayed you weren’t a Morrissey fan.

YES!!! - - -and from my old Harley days...never forget bailing wire...duct tape...hose clamps of various sizes...and heavy duty tie-wraps!!!

Plug socket from the kit with the bar. Tools to take valve cover off and adjust valves. Tools to remove wheels. Tire/tube repair kit. Tire irons. Tools to remove battery. Don’t take every wrench in the set, only ones needed for roadside services. One needle nose and one regular plier. I don’t take sockets unless there is a nut that I can’t get with a wrench. Same with Alen wrenches, only the ones I need.
