MG Service in South Dakota?
« on: July 30, 2025, 11:25:29 AM »
Thinking of moving to the Rapid City area. MG appears to have zero presence in SD; their map shows the closest dealer/servicer is 6 hours away in CO, the same dealer from which I bought my '22 V7 850 Special a couple years ago.  I can do all the routine maintenance & most fixes myself but if any 'deep' stuff comes up I'd prefer a pro wrench.

Any members in that area and if so where do you get stuff done?

You may want to look up the MGNOC rep if there is one. See what the club riders do. A good source for Guzzi's info

I'm on the opposite side of the state, and recently sold my Norge due to the local dealer dropping the line. Omaha Nebraska might be the closest now.

Been a couple years, but last time through Sturgis there was a dealer there who had just taken on MG. They also had  couple other brands but can’t remember which. They had at least 10 new Guzzi’s out on the floor.

The Motorcycle Shop in Watertown SD. Used to sell new Guzzi's, now just service and used bikes, great mechanic.
But, on the East side of the state.

Welp, I give up. As far as I can tell South Dakota has no MGNOC presence. Their FB group admins aren't acting on 'join' requests nor are they responding to DM's. Even tried messaging one of them through here on WG; no response. Probably just sell my V7 before moving.

Sorry to say but there are no Guzzi dealers in Nebraska these days. I live just outside Omaha. Closest dealer is down in KC area. Out here you need to be able to do your own service work. Parts are easy to get on line. I bought my last new bike from Cadre Cycle in Ohio.

The dealer here sells the bike but does not service.  While they're only 157 miles NW of Kona. The only way IF they service bikes correctly is to ship by barge to Honolulu and the bike has to be on a skid aka pallet.  At least you can drive it to a dealer for service.

Hence the unofficial motto for Moto Guzzi owners.  "Making motorcycle mechanics since 1921."

Just because a place sells Guzzi does not mean they are able to service them nor does it mean they will be selling Guzzi's in a year or two. Most places take on the brand and then realize that the mothership is impossible to deal with and drop the brand as soon as possible. I'd bet the life expectancy of any new Guzzi dealership is less than 5 years.

If factory service/support is a must have, Guzzi is not for you. Sell it and buy a UJM.

If you haven’t had major issues with that bike so far it is highly unlikely you will see any in the next few years.Ride it and change the oil and do the basic stuff and enjoy the great roads ,if something major occurs buy another bike, life is too short to worry .My last new Guzzi went 93000 miles before needing major work.

What's a 12-hour round trip among friends?  And Denver is such a nice town...  Truthfully, I've required a Guzzi dealer only a couple times in thirty-years of riding them.  With mail-order parts and shipping as quick and easy as they are, living away from a dealer isn't that big a deal.  It's 120-miles to my nearest dealer.

On the other hand, you could pick up a Triumph Bonneville and have a dealership in town.  Rice's Rapid Motorsports.

I recently picked up a used T100 and it's a blast...
