Metalic Intermitant Tapping late Stelvio

Hi, I have owned many 4\8Valve Stelvio and Norge ridden 170,000 mile plus on them. My current Bike is a 2015 Build Stelvio.. My Question is has any one had an intermittent Metallic tapping? Like a Tinking noise. Right Side only.  It can do this on Over run and on load Etc.  Replaced cam chain tensioner. I think its less often now?. I don't think it is Pinging as it on over run sometimes, I have tried various fuels. I have never had this before on any other of my 8v bikes. It inconstant no particular pattern.   Owned two months rode 6000 miles no performance issues etc.

If you can, ride w/no helmet, you can differentiate the noises. Fuel ping does sound different than chain rattle unless you wear a helmet & earplugs.

Thanks for replying Steve . My thoughts was with cam chain that the timing was going out at times, causing a rattle. Would I get Pinging on over run ?. It is very metallic almost a ringing .

I understand why you're thinking internal, but sometimes these turn out to be exhaust touching the frame at certain RPMs, or a loose motor mount bolt, or even something further back. Perhaps spend a while checking fasteners from front to back, looking at possible contact zones.

If it doesn't solve the issue, your bike will not regret the attention, and I have been surprised before with the things that I found by doing this when I thought I had an internal issue.

Never heard ignition ping on over run only on acceleration.

I Got a message from the Master, he says to check your sump spacer gasket. Torn out piece could effect pressure to chain tensioner.

Thanks Again GuzziSteve and Pete R . The first thing I checked was the sump Flange Gasket, as I have had THE gasket blow previous Bike it sounded like a flat tappet bike with the cams gone.  Infact that particular bike sounds better than this 2015 bike. When this bike decides to ting and ping. If it was my old BMW oil head I would blame the end flout on the rocker shaft. That would rattle intermittent when it felt like it

On this intermittent Ting Ping or Rattle . I have been reading too analysis paralysis!!  THOUGHT ??  IF the little pad on the top of the Rocker tappet was worn or damaged. Is this likely ? or has it been known  ? .. It so intermittent it is annoying

No, seriously, of all the things I did to make my bike run better that was the most effective for the least effort.

I have not seen any wear, but I retired from working at the shops. I would talk to Pete over on the Griso Ghetto.
