The brakes on my old R50/2 were just plain awful. No bike could be worse than those.

Obviously a statement made by someone who has never driven a pre 2003 Ural.
My R60/2 with round drums and 232AF brake compound did have anti-lock brakes, but stopped uneventfully.
Ural with sloppy linkage, bad mechanical advantage and steel, out of round drums being grabbed by something with the consistency of slate just sort of slowed down. The brake was good for turning on the tail light so following traffic knew you wanted to stop.
