Loop solo seat details
« on: September 18, 2025, 09:08:28 AM »
I purchased a used & repaired Loop solo seat from WG member Aldo (great transaction, very happy) with plans to use the repaired plastic seat pan as a pattern to make a pan from crs for one of my projects.   Not very familiar with Loop stuff, but if these seats were ever original equipment, I’m assuming the original pans were steel.

If so, Does anyone here know how the upholstery was secured to the pan?  Did the pan have teeth or barbs that pierced the vinyl , was some kind of channel binding used to crimp the vinyl over the edge of the pan or was it stapled directly to the seat pan like this repro seat?

I think Guzzi made more than 1 kind of solo seat for Loops. I have not owned one, but I have 2 Police solo's for Tonti frames I use on my Cal2
I went and looked the one on the shelf. It has rivets in the front, one on ea side. Farther back the top wraps the base & is glued w/metal clips on edge.
The solo's I remember were like the front 1/2 of a twin seat instead like yours. Police put on their own seat also similar to a buddy seat.

Mine needs a new cover

There were at least three types of solo seat for Loops: 1) the half of a dual-seat as Steve mentioned, 2) a "European" sprung solo seat (like the one in Cliffrod's photos), 3) the "LAPD" style seat.

This a reproduction of the Euro solo seat:

A customer's police Ambassador had the Euro solo seat on it, and the foam had turned to something akin to dried out brownies. The cover on that one was simply folded over the edge of the pan and then held in place with u-shaped metal clips like these:

At the front there were rivets as shown by Steve. My upholstery guy made a new foam and then glued the cover in place.

Thanks, guys.  I had seen the mg cycle seat.  it looked like it was glued but I figured it may have more.  This seat’s foam and cover are still in pretty good shape, so should be good to use on a new pan.

Man, that seat looked pretty good until I got to the last picture.  Doesn’t look like it was used after the modifications…
