1200 Sport 2V vs 4V Frame Geometry / Handling
« on: September 23, 2025, 04:05:17 PM »
Hi All,

Do you know what is the difference between the earlier 2V and the later 4V 1200 Sport main frame?  The frame part has a different catalogue number in both cases and they handle slightly different too.  The front suspension forks and springs are the same to the best of my knowledge (same part number), so where are the different riding characteristics come from?

Frames are real close, different #'s cause motor mounts are different, specially the head mount. Different tabs welded on frame.

Would that explain the difference in handling, especially the steering?

Just a few thoughts and suggestions on your inquiry:

Do you have actual differences in handling or just differences in perception of it?

Are the forks mounted to the same height stock on both or on the ones you've ridden?

Are the two bikes otherwise dimensionally the same? Differences in weight, height, weight distribution, seating, reach to the handlebars or relative height/angle of the bars affect feel.

Are the tires the same? Differences in brand, type, even age and wear affect feel.

Good points, thanks Kev.

I think there is some difference in handling rather than perception of it.

The older model (forks) sits a little higher at the front, not sure why.

Otherwise the bikes are the same except the handlebars - both models have their specific mounts and that's one of the very few differences between them (apart from the engines).

The tyres are different on both bikes and I understand that may play its role...

Kev is spot on, much better explanation than I could come up with. We never got the 8V model in USA market.
