Seat Prop attachment pic?
« on: October 01, 2025, 07:54:34 PM »
Anyone have a pic of how the seat prop looks/attaches to the bottom of a Tonti (1000SP or similar) seat?

Mine is missing and I've gotten a new part but now I have no idea how it attaches and the parts diagram isn't helping much.

There should be a bracket on the underside of the seat, that the rod fits into.

Here is a picture of the underside of the seat, not too well illuminated. The lower circle indicates the mounting tab for the rod on the seat. This is just a steel tab, riveted, I think, to the seat pan. The upper circle indicates the tab into which the loose end of the rod is hooked when the rod is not being used.

Perfect, thanks! Looks like I might have to pop rivet a replacement metal strap in there...I see empty holes but no holder, looks like it got torn out.

Brilliant! This could inspire me to make one for the V50 - it's a bit tedious to prop the seat up with a buckshee chunk of wood, in the garage and nothing for on the road.

And another, again not great light but being red might be easier to see than black;

Pictures not helped by the limited amount of lift available due to mudguard hitting the rear tyre.

Nice of di Tomasso (sp?) to delete the prop to save a dollar.

The prop is a 5mm spring steel rod, worth looking for if you're going to make your own setup (part number 17462750). The rod slips through the pivot strap at the back and then is held under tension against the seat pan as it hooks into the front bracket.

Almost anything would be better than a buckshee chunk of wood. (Thanks for adding to my vocabulary.)

@moto
Thanks for that: I was considering 3mm aluminium or stainless steel rod, for sufficient strength and lightness, so maybe I will think about 5mm.
For your delectation I took a pic of the makeshift prop - it was a freebie from packing material for a new washing machine  :cheesy:
