~Taking the Fall~
29th Annual Fall Moto Guzzi New England Day
Steven Rossi
According to the National Weather Service, Sunday, October 12 was supposed to be the worst of times…with a Nor’easter barreling up the Eastern seaboard. But for some of us it proved to be the best of times because the 29th Annual Fall Moto Guzzi New England Day was scheduled for that very same Sunday.
The Fall New England Day is a long-standing tribute to the original Fall Open Houses at Marsh Motorcycles. Picking up where they left off, it’s now held at The
Vanilla Bean in Pomfret, Connecticut.
Being far enough off the shoreline up in the Northeast corner of Connecticut, 14 hearty Guzzi guys and gals ventured forth…Nor’easter be damned. Some on four wheels, which is better than none. A cloudy and chilly morning was quelled by the Bean’s hot chili and coffee. Here are the Mandello del Lario machines that made it:

California 1400

V85 TT Centenario

By the end of lunch, a bit of mist began to descend…so the party ended early. Sooner than later, the drizzle turned into drops. Which was fine by me. Because I have no problem with the surreal calm of riding in the rain. And since we Guzzisti are a mature seasoned lot, there was plenty of toasty Gerbings and Hotwired attire among the ranks.
When it comes to Mother Nature…particularly as Fall arrives in New England…some folks err on the side of uneventful caution and conservatism. While others opt for memorable adventure and enjoyment. Take your choice…
