Whirring noise while riding

I hear a whirring noise while riding. Is this normal? I always ride with ear plugs so I don't know if it's always been there or something new. I noticed it today at stops. Sitting on the bike it sounds like a fan running. In the garage, helmet off and an ear plugs out, I'd say it comes from the front of the bike. Alternator? Fuel pump?

I had a BMW once that developed an ever-increasing whine from behind me. Really annoying.   I fixed it by buying a one-way ticket and dropping her off at the airport.  Bike was nice a quiet after that!

Pull the fuel pump fuse while running and see if it stops. How many miles on it.
