Universal hard bags
« on: October 24, 2025, 01:37:48 PM »
So I bought these universal hard bags for my Bassa:

https://www.mutazu.com/collections/mutazu-universal-hard-saddlebags/products/lw-universal-white-saddlebags-for-honda-suzuki-kawasaki-harley-yamaha-victory

200 bucks including mounting hardware. These are 25 liter bags. A bit smaller than the ones on my old Norge, but I'll also have a large top box when I travel. They're mounted, but I haven't loaded them up and gone on a trip with them yet. I'll add to this thread when I do. They seem very high quality for such a low price. Fairly sturdy ABS plastic with solid mounting hardware and decent latches and hinges. I had to buy some spacers for the rear brackets, but no other mods were needed. I painted them with SprayMax paint to match the color of my Bassa.

I wanted to try top loading bags. This after having various other stock and aftermarket side-opening bags (Givi, Hepco-becker). I know loading stuff on top of these bags limits your ability to open the lids, but I don't think that'll be a problem with how I've positioned them and how I load my bike. They may be more waterproof too, not that I've ever had bags leak.

The mounting brackets are pretty stout metal, and have a triangulated brace where there's a 90 degree bend. Rubber grommets that fit in the mounting holes are provided. I did buy larger washers to better spread the load on the grommets.

More to come when I test them...

Looks good to me!

Most similar  that I've seen to the unobtanium National Cycle bags that came with some Californias.

Matzu stuff is not bad (not great heavy duty, but not flimsy POS either). I have two of their trunks and use the "heavy duty" mounting brackets on my HD with some Bates bags that look alot like the ones you bought. I almost bought the bags you did for my HD, but a deal came up for the Bates that I couldn't refuse.

If the bags seem to flex in and out a bit at the bottom, you may consider adding a piece of flat bar from the passenger foot pegs to the bottom of the heavy duty mounts. I would do this to my HD (though they don't flex badly/excessively) if I had a place to make the flat bar work.

Nice looking!!!! :thumb:

I have considered doing that from the start after receiving them. I'll know if I need to soon, as I plan to load em' up and see how they perform soon.

They look like Wixom bags which haven’t been made in decades. I used to use them on Ambassadors and they were great. Good choice!

My brain was just kicked into gear. I just got a new white bike, V7850. I installed the black bags from the bike I traded in. Thinking I need to paint them white. I know I can't match the color perfectly but I should be able to get close.
