Thanks for the useful information. I'd say my faith in AI generated info is restored, but that's a different thread.

After changing the fuel filter, I was able to do a short test yesterday with a tank that was just barely 3bars full (i.e. 2 bars on the side stand, 3 when the bike was vertical). There was no bogging down, but I'd still call the test inconclusive because it was 35degF out and the ride was only 2.5 miles down to the closest gas station for a fill up. The tank is now full and the weather cold, so it will be a while before I can ride it long enough to test the fuel pump. If a warm day comes up, i'll siphon out some gas and re-test.

and as long as we're showing bike pics, here's the Audace in question. Picked it up over the summer as a non-runner project with a bald rear tire. It was easy to get it running again, but there were several things that needed attention after some (likely hack) mechanic had their way with it. Sheared bolts, altered airbox, missing license plate holder, etc.

Seems like Grok AI got it right on point 1.

Some add a bit of Marvel Mystery Oil to the gas to keep the internal fuel pump lubricated. Especially helpful on bikes that sit more than they’re ridden.

I've already got another pump ordered, but will add some MMO for another test.

New pump installed. Problem fixed.

Based on a recommendation from a FB forum, I went with a pump from Quantum Fuel Systems (QFS). At $110 it was more than the cheapest ebay options, but way less than OEM. The screen needed some orings to get a decent fit, but otherwise it was a drop in replacement, even though they didn't explicitly list the 1400's as compatible models. We'll see how long it lasts.

Thanks all.
