CALVIN REAR SHOCKS

Ok, it seems my rear shocks are upside down, can anyone please confirm. I have had this bike only 2 weeks and only recently noticed this.
Is there a reason for this?? any info much appreciated. see pic.

Seems to be wrong.

Many thanks, do you think any damage would have been done with the previous owner using them like this?

I have no idea, but why did he do that? 
The California 1100 Aquila Nera is more or less the same bike, here you can see those shocks:

I just did get a reply from a very good mechanic.
I asked "Could this have caused any damage?"
His answer

No, suspension struts have always been installed “upside down,” back in the days of enduro bikes, and even on the V 11 and your Griso...

Thanks for that info, I have put the shocks back the right way, also one was preloaded max on spring, the other side was minimum, go figure.
I have set them both the same now so hoping for a handling improvement.

I'd go figure that whoever had the bike was sloppy and go thru it top to bottom.
