What US manufacturer makes this engine?
« on: January 09, 2026, 04:55:21 PM »
Saw this on the local news about how good the US economy and manufacturing is. It looks like a motorcycle engine, but not a Harley. Anybody know what motorcycle engine is being manufactured in the US?

It's most likely a Briggs or other mfg. 600cc 25hp V twin lawn mower engine.

Arent there a couple aftermarket engines for Hardly Abelsons? S&S, Screaming Eagle?

But it could be one of the many Vtwin motors for large riding mowers/zero turns, etc.

Kawasaki. Specifically it looks like an FR series engine, not a motorcycle specific engine but a v-twin powerplant for mowers and such.

Buell's engine is derived from an Austrian Rotax design that was modified for Erik Buell Racing, and the current ones are assembled in Grand Rapids, MI with globally sourced parts. They do lay claim that the cases are made in Michigan for the Super Cruiser at least.

A horizontal shaft engine (Briggs, Honda GX) would be better suited for a ditch pump.

Kawasaki FR engines mostly end up in mowers.

What does that have to do with Kawasaki V-twins made in the US?

Are they actually made in the US or simply assembled there ? Even HD hasn't been able advertise as made in the US for at least 4 decades .

That likely depends on how you qualify being made in the USA. The FTC have strict guidelines for marketing with that term, which lead to a lot of "Made in the USA with global materials"
https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/resources/complying-made-usa-standard

Applying the same standards, modern Moto Guzzis are made in Italy with global materials.
