New Moto Guzzi Door Mats Available Now
My 25 v85 makes a tapping/knocking sound at an 4100 rpm to maybe 4500. It’s barley discernible under very light acceleration, but more noticeable under heavy acceleration. It’s not the tappets. My theory is it the VVT activating. It’s done it since brand new, and with 2200 miles it hasn’t changed. My question to you other owners, does yours do it?
No, it doesn't sound like pre detonation, it's more of a vibration sound.
It could be something loose as Huzo mentioned. It could also be that small block chuck chuck chuck thunk thunk sound. I have it on my V7ii and V85…
I think this advice is more useful to a newer owner, but bad Chad has owned a small block for…how many years and miles, now? You’d think that his years of ownership and general knowledge would elevate him above the ol’ “Guzzis make noise” generality. I mean sure, we can all be prone to the occasional simple solution, but I would think years of ownership makes one accustomed to the common sounds.
The new bikes have nothing in common with the older bikes except the cylinder angles. Virtually no parts are interchangeable except for maybe some of the fasteners. They might as well be called Piaggios as Guzzis.Pete
You’re saying a V85TT motor is drastically different from a 2017-2021 V9?
When I got my 22 it made a more harsh noise in that range coming on at 4100 rpms it seemed. The bike had been tuned. I came across a video on aprillia about syncing the flywheel to the computer. I did the sync and the noise was gone. It's super easy enough to try. with a warm bike, start with key off then proceed to start the bike, don't touch anything and rev it over 6k rpms 3 times letting the rpm's return to idle in between rev's. that extra noise was gone and it ran a hair better. Maybe this step was skipped on the setup on your bike after an update when assembling/delivery.
