Mc roads
« on: March 29, 2026, 12:46:21 PM »
I live in the middle of some of the best roads for a motorcycle , the driftless area that the glaciers didn’t flatten. We like the tar roads in Wisconsin that go through the valleys, usually in second gear where you can’t see the guy in front of you from twenty feet away. Tight twisted hill roads that rarely have traffic right out my front door.
On weekends the main roads get crowded but the back roads don’t. There’s always more roads to find. https://youtu.be/EoGjCZsbCFY?si=uThMJwNP-9uOlU-N

Any recommendations for a good place or two to base from if one were riding the area?

Harley Davidson in Chippewa Falls publishes a Driftless region Butler map...you can call them and order it.

A good place to stay, so many along the Great River Road...hard to go wrong with so many nice towns, great riding on either side of the river.  If you like breweries...check out Potosi in the south, ride the Cassville Ferry, visit Pikes Peak (yes, the same Zebulon Pike) in Iowa, stop in to Wonewoc where the Wisconsin Guzzy rally takes place in August...lots of great choices out on the western side of the state.  Ride along the Wisconsin river from East to West and back...stop in Prairie du Sac, Chien, La Crosse...really enjoyable riding all in that area.

Good camping along the Wisconsin River also, Eagle Cave where they had the early rallies was a Boy Scout camp.
