Thinking of Cutting One Out of the Herd

Let me start this off by saying the V100S is the finest motorcycle I have ever ridden bar none.  It is fantastic and I am very proud of MG for pulling this one off.

But, as you guys know I am constantly restoring, fettling and riding my older bikes, which leaves the fabulous V100S sitting most of the time. 

Lately it has started to bother me a bit that such a fine bike sits idle 95+% of the time.  I am actually considering selling it, but the selling process makes me shudder. 

On the other hand, the amazing V100S doesn't eat much and is ready anytime I want to step into the world of modern performance.  It is getting a bit cramped around here though. 

What do you guys think of my 1st world problem?

Where I live, hanging onto a bike I don't ride much makes no sense because insurance is close to $1000 / year (for every bike, and additional 1000, more or less.  They give you a 10% multi-bike discount).  Which really means $1000 / 6 mo because that's the length of our riding season, and you can't buy less than a 12-mo policy.

If that's not an issue where you are, and you are not hard-up for space, and are able to keep it clean and maintained, and you have no immediate need for the $$ you'd get from it's (depreciated) value, then what's the problem?

Hagerty now insures motorcycles. If you can live with some mileage restrictions, the cost is very reasonable.
I have always regretted selling a motorcycle, even if it made sense at the time.
Should have never sold my Griso- that is a very unique motorcycle.
The reality hits because unused motorcycles degrade due to fuel and fluid issues. They literally need to be used regularly to stay in good condition. Exception would be fluidless display bike.

So the age of question, how many to keep?

My self imposed ride a minimum of 1000 miles a year or it gets sold keeps my herd in check. I don't make the decision the odometer does.

Insurance is very cheap so that is not much of a concern.

  Made long ardous journey across Seattle to see V85 and fell in LUST with V100 Special with gold wheels.  Closed my eyes and felt as comfy as my Norge.  I would love to own one of those if only......

Easy fix. Just buy another bike, keep it six months and then decide which one to sell.

I’m in exactly the same situation, except for me the one going on the block will be a Guzzi V85TT.

Insurance cost is not my issue (I pay $35 per year additional to insure the V85TT)  but sometimes something has to go.  Space is an issue.  I just acquired a Laverda SFC 1000, a truly practical motorcycle (not!) and the garage is now over full.

Listen, if you just need the room, then I can come get it and store it here.  I'll even take it for a spin every now and then in order to keep it all oiled.

Have you considered doing one of those rental app things?
The bike would eventually ammortize itself, and then you would still own it. Of course, you would have to deal with the “renters”.
