R&R CALVIN REAR WHEEL
« on: May 16, 2026, 04:41:43 PM »
This is my first time replacing the rear tire on my '07 Calvin. I suspect there is no way around: removing the bags, bag supports, mufflers, shocks, caliper, to get the rear wheel clear. [After chalking the front tire and jacking the engine from underneath or perhaps hoisting the rear frame from above.]
I'm working on a flat garage floor, am I over complicating? Or missing anything? [Other than a better workshop.]

For just rear wheel removal, put on center stand & tilt over to right & put 1x under left centerstand foot, tilt over to left & put 2x under right hand centerstand foot. Then pull 1x out & replace with a 2x. Keep going back & forth raising the back end till you can get wheel out. This is how I do it on the floor. Helps to set up boards ahead of time left & right. Then scoot them under with your foot while tilting bike over.

Oh Yea, you got it right about left side exhaust & bag mounts.

Thanks, Steve.  I'll pull the front wheel out of the Baxter and make sure the center stand bolts are snug.  I might as well wire up the Skenes when I can get under the rear fender.

I did it on my EV (same thing) in a parking lot with a camper attached.
Pull muffler, pull the axle, had someone pull the wheel out while I leaned it over.

Good judgement comes from experience.
And experience. That comes from poor judgement.

I had a CalVin and other Tonti frame bikes. When I was in the garage solo, to remove the rear wheel this is what I did, with 100% easy results 100% of the time.

1. Put bike on center stand
2. Remove front wheel.
3. Rest forks on a rubber mat
4. The rear tire is now quite easy to remove solo.

The hard bags are very easy to remove, the supports so not need to.
One bolt and clamp to remove left exhaust, two Allen's for rear caliper( zip tie or wire out of way).
Your tool kit should have an 2" long allen that fits the rear axle you fit a socket on.
The hardest part is getting the rear high enough to roll out the wheel from under the fender. I used a gantry hoist and a sling under the fender. Others have their ways!
its not the end of the world...but you can see it from here!
