Never say never, Non GC

Well I’m sure I owe the collective an apology for some of my previous, “never" statements.

For example;
I’ll never own another chain drive bike….or the popular,
I’ll bever own tube tires again or the infamous,
I’ll never own a liquid cooled bike.

How foolish of me. So I says to myself, self, when are you ever gonna learn to never say never?!

SO now I own a chain drive and tube tire bike that is not liquid cooled and
I’m gonna add another chain drive, tube type bike that IS liquid cooled.
Sheesh!!!

So, I’ll never say never again…..ooppss I did it again.

Right now my DR650 is my favorite bike. As much as I don't like tubes or chain maintenance, it really does its job too good to care. Sometimes it just takes everything else to be good for the minor stuff to be a simple distraction.

I inherited a cheap 'wee strom' suzuki 650.  Over 100K miles and It is more reliable than my refrigerator.
And about as inspiring.

I agree that carbs are easier to work on, but none of the FI systems on bikes I own or have owned in the past ever NEEDED any work on there injection systems!  "NO need to work on" is even easier than "easy to work on."  :)

I had a T120. I got sick and tired of cleaning up after the chain. I converted it to belt drive, much better. Then the V100 appeared on the scene so the outcome was obvious. Much better, sad that I had to let her go too.

I made about $200K fixing other people’s EFI problems.

Re shaft drive, I find that my shaft driven bikes get used for practical purposes, and touring on them is less stress.  The chain drive bikes are meanwhile lighter and get used for day rides.  There’s a place for both.

I have three liquid cooled bikes of the eleven currently in the stable.  I can’t say I like liquid cooling but they are the three most powerful of my bikes, and that is not a coincidence.

I can’t say anything positive about tubes in tires…

I think I paid about $850 for it. I looked they are now over $1,000 but there are some out there for less. Just Google Free Spirit belt drive for T120. Due to my experience definitely get the guard. I picked up something on one trip and got a bad vibration. When I backed the bike up it was gone. I didn't find what it was but it fell out and all was good. Installation wasn't too bad, the swing arm has to be removed which takes a special tool but I made one out of a flat piece of steel. There is also a nub on the back of the case which has to be cut or ground off.

Edit: It sat at the dealership for many months until they shipped it to the Las Vegas store where it sold fairly quickly. It also had Oxford heated grips, CBow mounts and hard cases. I also polished the cases which were originally brushed and stained quite easily. It was a good bike I just got excited about the Mandellos.

While I won't say never, I'd be hard pressed to buy another bike with tube type wheels.
