Flushing linked brakes- reverse bleed?
« on: May 29, 2026, 09:08:22 AM »
This 85 cal2 needs brake fluid serviced. I have a mity vac.  Use it or reverse bleed? ( which I’ve never done ). Talking about the rear, the “splitter back there does it have a bleeder? Didn’t see one. Wondering which way is going to be Easiest for me.  Master cyl on front only does RF calipers yes?

I just did my 1000SP with a vacuum pump.  Proportional valve first, rear wheel second, front wheel last and it worked good.
Takes a bit to get the front fluid flowing, I think because it goes through some sort of check valve.
I did have to remove and put teflon tape on the bleeders to get a good enough seal and not just pull air from around the threads on them.

I've never got on with vacuum bleeder on linked brakes - keeps pulling air through the bleed nipple joint and/or between tube and nipple (guess teflon would help one of those).

Best approach I've had (V50 & V65s) is to remove both linked front & rear calipers & suspend them so they are as high as possible & leave them overnight (air bubbles at least start their journey nearer the calipers & well above the splitter junction. Next day I do rear first & front last with calipers suspended (and usually with long pipe off caliper down to collection jar); check they are firm with piece of wood in caliper & then refit them. Sounds tedious but avoids the 'air bubbles trapped in high points of lines'.
