stelvio rear shock set up

Hello all,

For those of us in our late  50s and having back pain, I noticed my stelvio rear shock is all the way to the right which seems pretty stiff. I've done some online searching and turned it 4 or 5 clicks to the left.

Without making it worse, what are some of you setting you suspension at? The owners manual gives good general info but I think many of us here are in their 50s w/ back issues

"all the way to the right" Sounds like you have the preload maxed out, I do too.  Mine is that way in an effort to set the sag correctly.  Even maxed out, there is too much sag - my fat 250 lb. American ass is the problem.  I'm 59 years old.  After maxing the preload I felt the suspension was to harsh over bumps, so I adjusted the rebound damping setting to the left for quicker return, or extension of the shock.  See if that helps.

Thanks for the reply, I also did an AI search under 220lbs and it suggested turning all the way to the left as  a base point and then 12-15 clicks to the right

I cant see the set screw, perhaps my eyes are going to but for that, it says, turn all the way to the right and then 1, 1.5 turns to the left

You need to set the per load to 30%. Get out a tape and start there. Smartest thing you could do is contact Winding roads in the UK and get a Shock factory shock set up for you. Why suffer and your kids will just blow your money when your gone anyway!

I had a Mandello. It is supposed to when you get on?    I am 150 lbs soaking wet. I set everything as light as it would go. It was still stiff, with all my camping stuff it rode pretty well.

exactly.  EVERYTHING suspension related begins with proper preload.  If you cannot get to 30% sag with you on it, the spring is incorrect for your weight.

If you have to crank preload to the max to get that sag, you will most probably be better off with a stiffer spring. 

The reverse is generally true but the absolute best rear suspension I ever had on a bike was with a shock spring that took 0 preload.
