1900 reading for PSA is the highest reading I have heard to date.  I wish you the best.

I was 59 the first time I checked my prostate - with ultra-sound device up my rear exit and a camera-on-a-stick up my winky - although I have later seen that my doctor had ordered a PSA during an earlier blood test that was fine.

The reason for the exam was that, like you, I had to get up and pee once or twice per night, sometimes with good pressure, other times not. Then again, I have never had all that good of a flow, even as a kid. However, the exam showed everything to be in perfect condition internally, with a PSA of 0.8. It was the same when I was 60, then got up to 1.2 last year and the same again this year. The limit is 4.5, according to my doctor.

I mention this because frequent peeing needs does not by itself mean cancer. That should NOT prevent you from testing your PSA annually. After my first exam was "perfect" a few years ago, I expected there was no need to test again for at least 5 years, but my doctor insists on an annual check. Not just the PSA number, but a general health check. It take me a total of one hour per year, including the drive to and from the doctor, and it at least gives me peace of mind. My brother never see a doctor - or a dentist - before he has a problem. That has cost him much more in dental care than if he had made a visit to the dentist annually.

So take Nick's advice and get yourself checked regularly. We can do with some maintenance as well, not just our bikes.

Darn!!! Hope all improves shortly! Have been wrestling with the BPH issues myself along with low blood count issues (RBC, WBC) and also sent to oncologist/hematologist. Multiple blood test, bone marrow biopsy, ultra sound imaging. Good news is no cancer found, just put on iron &vitamin C to go along with the B12 & folic acid to accompany the statin , D3 & aspirin. Next week it's off to see the intervention radiologist to see about a PAE procedure??

As my MIL use to tell me; don't get old, you will not like it??? Of course the alternative may be worse??????

It’s my understanding, according to my PCP, that prostate cancer is generally a very slow growing form of cancer.
A yearly PSA test will and from one yearly physical to the next, going by the PSA testing and or digital exam, will catch this cancer in the earliest stages and therefore make the chances of the spreading of this terrible disease very minimal.
Get those yearly physical exams guys, it’s the responsible think to do. Just like regular oil changes for your Moto Guzzis (motorcycle content:)

Not a doctor, but I sat on the DOD's Medical (and defense) IRBs for 3 years.  I learned a few things based on some of the research protocols being conducted. This was when Proton Therapies were first approved for treatment of Prostate Cancer.  What I learned from the literature and research is that every man will develop prostate cancer at some point in their life. The question is when and what type/how bad. I don't have a history of PC in my family, but have been getting PSA's since 35, and the Army mandates Dr Cold Finger in your over 40 Physical.

5 years ago a 52 YO buddy had is PSA/poke as part of his annual physical and was perfect/normal. YET, 6 months later he died of an extremely aggressive and sudden onset of PC that went for his bones. Point is not to be morbid, but you can do EVERYTHING right, and take all precautions and tests. It's the responsible thing to do, but nothing is guaranteed. Live life, do your best, trust the Good Lord for the rest. So many factors at play, and there is only so much you can do.

But it is important for us to talk about it and take care of ourselves.

Many years ago, my 16 year old brother-in-law went from perfectly healthy, with no symptoms, came home from school with a stomach ache, he died 24 hours later from acute leukemia.  Over the last year, two friends, one 55, the other 64 dropped dead instantly from a ruptured aorta.

You never know when your time is up.  As the saying goes "Tomorrow is promised to no man!"
