2017 special center stand ?

I just got a 2017 v7 special . It came with a center stand that the previous owner didn’t get mounted ( probably because it wasn’t the correct one or ? ) Anyway, it looks like to me it would mount if there wasn’t a small loop with a slot in the way ( part of frame ) . Can someone enlighten me on what this slotted loop was for and are there instructions somewhere for mounting a center stand to this model ?
Also, electronic tach has taken a crap ! I don’t really need one but ? It blows fuses ! Diode ?

By ‘loop with a slot, part of the frame’, are you talking about this?



If so, that is the mounting cradle for the evap canister, and is welded to the removable cross brace between the lower frame rails. Not sure about the factory accessory center stand, but if you happen to have a Hepco & Becker center stand, it’ll look like this. The highlighted area replaces the factory cross brace:

Why do you say that?

Looks like it should work to me. Note the H&B center stand works for a bunch of models across the V7 II, V7 III, and V7 E5 850 line. From the instruction manual:

Even the V9 center stands will work, although the foot lever might possibly stick out a little further due to the V9’s beefier exhausts.

The only thing that looks mildly peculiar is the one bar, circled in the picture below, isn’t bent at an angle like in the instruction manual. This could mean it’s a rare bird that got missed, or perhaps it’s a cheaper knockoff. But I have one of the knockoffs AS WELL as a legitimate H&B stand, and they both have the bar bent at that spot. I think the bend is made in order to make sure that support bar clears the kick stand mounting tab, which I’ve pointed out in the photo below:



There’s a good chance that it still clears the kick stand tab.

Give it a whirl. Don’t worry about mounting the actual center stand to the stand mount just to mock it up—it can get heavy, and you just want to see if it mounts up.

• Remove the mufflers, undo slightly the engine bolts above the cross brace (just below the side covers),
• completely remove the long thru-bolt that goes through the cross tube (between the lower frame rails),
• line the stand mount up in place of that cross tube, making sure that the little bolt can screw into the locating hole (the factory cross tube has a little boss that fits into that hole for structural location),
• and see if you can feed the long through bolt through the center stand mount.

If all works out, you should be good to remove the mount, add the center stand, and get everything secured into place. I don’t think your pipes should be an issue, nor the kick stand…assuming the H&B center stand works with both Euro and U.S. kick stands.[/list]

Good question, as the same instructions may well be used across different variants of the stand(s).

Yeah, sorry. My mindset was solely based on the frame mounting bit, which I’m still almost positive is the same across V7 II up to at least 2024, including that little locating tab hole. If there are any differences in the center stands, I imagine it’s how far the foot lever sticks out to clear the mufflers, but I’m so accustomed to getting things welded for modification that I just assume others would be fine with that IF NEEDED—obviously that’s a fallacy on my part. If it’s for a Racer, the foot lever might be shorter; if it’s for a V7 II, the foot lever might bump into the beefier V7 III mufflers.

How do I know the frame-mounting portion probably fits, and maybe it’s just the foot lever length? My V7 II center stand is currently mounted on my V7 III, and my eBay knockoff V7 III center stand is mounted on my V9. That said, the V7 II’s foot lever was chopped and welded shorter because of the scrambler pipes.

It's weird, the USA distributor for Hepco & Becker seem to have one listing that supposedly includes all those models. But it also has separate listings for a center stand for some of them.

The main Hepco & Becker website from Germany seems to have separate listings for those (at least the first few models I changed).

So yeah I'm still confused but suspect though similar they may have different kits.

I dunno, I've got OEM stands on both of mine.
