I Had the 73 CL350 Out

The 73 CL350 was out and about last evening.  This bike is great fun and brings back the memories because I learned to ride on a 69 CL350.

This started out as a rough $250 neighborhood garage sale find. I was able to push it home.

In high school, I had a friend that owned the same bike.  His was a more "orange" color if I remember correctly. (my curiosity got the better of me, a search turned up "Candy Topaz Orange!" We used to ride all over the county, he on the Honda, me on my Suzuki GT380.  Those were the days.

When I was in the Army I had a night/weekend job in a motorcycle rental shop. We had a dozen CL350's and I think 18 CL160's. They both were fun to ride even though I had an R50/2 and later an R75/5. My grandson and his father are coming to visit next month. Dad is trailering his 1600 BMW but it is a one bike trailer so they are leaving the grandson's 500 Harley behind. I am looking for an inexpensive bike for him to ride while he is here. I have a line on an '85 CB450 for little money. Looks to be in excellent condition and not too far away. Back when after I finally got burned out on my second job a fellow soldier and I took 3 week leaves and rode all over the Northwest. He rode a CB 450, it did just fine. I was a bit concerned as I had replaced a broken valve "spring" torsion bar the week before we left. It ran perfectly the whole time.

Really enjoyed riding mine Allover Chicagoland in the summer in the 70s.Traffic seemed to be half of what it is today,riding by the lake was a great way to cool off at night.Perfect size and weight and 90 plus performance on the expressway and outer drive if you were crazy enough.I get the same feeling now when I ride my fairingless t3 on hot summer days here in the Driftless of WI,no mor e nights,too many deer.

Is the cl360 a superior bike?

The 360 brought in a re-tuned engine for a broader torque curve, and a 6 speed transmission.  It was never as popular as the 350 and faded away in just a couple years.  I was going to by a brand new 74 360 until I was laid off from my job.

I always wanted one of those 350 Honda bikes but never owned one.
Started out on a Honda 160 and later on a 450.  Rode that 450 from Camp Lejeune, NC to 29 Palms, CA and back. The speed limit was 55 in those days.  Oooof.

Blue/white '68 CL350 (with the box muffler) was my second motorcycle, replacing my 125cc Kawasaki two stroke.  Nice bike; was stolen when I parked it on the side of the road and went out hiking.  Came back..no bike.  :(
