Startus Interruptus

Having a little trouble with starting my '09 Stelvio. When I hit the start button it usually springs to life but sometimes there is a delay of a few seconds before the starter kicks in. I did the Starter Interruptus fix as recommended by those in the know and also put a new battery in along with cleaning up my battery connections. So what could the problem be? Starter relay? Thanks.

Beyong more connection & earth checking solutions.........I have 09 Griso 8V and after 9 years no probs I got starting probs....I went for the 'Ver2' of Startus Interuptus with new starter relay down next to the Starter Motor (along with new Yuasa, bigger fuses etc) & I still get odd starting probs (OK after a few goes still) that I put down to solenoid despite trying to clean solenoid several times....I'm thinking it's just getting old & if it gets bad I'll just throw a new starter & relay in.

Looks similar to what I did. Does the original stock starter relay still have a role to play or does this completely bypass it, anyone?

If all else fails(Guzzi's wiring engineering) make a hot wire button. Strait from batt + post strait to the solenoid. Funny, this always works when their crap doesn't. That's cause you get rid of all the lectrical crap in the way.

So if that relay is not working as it should the new Startus Interruptus fix would be effected, unless I'm not understanding, which is likely.

Just experienced it for the first time yesterday.  100+ mile from home on the 2007 Norge.  No response from the starter button whatsoever.  Had to bump start it.  By the time I got home it was back to normal.

Pretty sure someone already did some work in there as one of the solenoids has an extra wire, but at least one of the POs was a wire-nut electrician so all bets are off.  First step is going to make my own circuit with relay and button as the backup.  After that, look though the lore and archana of SI and fix the wiring.

If they’re gonna drop their lip because they needed to help you, then they can get replaced along with the faulty bits on your Norge.
They sound like they’re not worth knowing.

Huzo, appreciate the support, though I think I did not get the accent right and it came out sounding different on the other side of the world.   One is my older brother that bought me a DT125 when I was 10 so can't get rid of him.  The other is a good friend who I consider to be family, but he knows me all too well.  I was joking the day before about the wisdom of going for a ride with 3 Italian bikes, 1 still not properly vetted by the lazy owner (me) and running 13 year old tires..  First, the clevis pin on the V85s rear brake pushrod took a runner then the Norge failed to start.  My mistake was then telling them that "yeah, apparently it happens sometimes" and admitting the wiring and pushbutton that should have been installed or at least in the top case were sitting on the kitchen counter at home.

My only excuse is the Staintune muffler sounds so good with the baffle out that I had no choice but to follow the sirens' call unto the rocks, prepared or not.

btw... it failed at the big overlook on the Richard Russel Parkway, a place guzzisteve is surely familiar with.  Good thing the parking lot is usefully sloped.

After seeing the pic paulbricey posted, I ordered some relays with harnesses and I'm going to run the relay off of a manual button.

My issue did turn out to be the starter relay. Getting all the tank plastic was the hard part. Is there any specific replacement relay recommended or any old relay that works? Do I stick with 20 amps or is it advisable to go with a 30 amp? Thanks.
