2009 Norge keys

Looking at a 2009 Norge, which hasn’t been run in many years. The person showing me the bike, is T the owner, and knows very little about it.

So, what should I be looking for?

Two keys?

Anything about the red triangle that I should be aware of?

If it starts, any odd noises?

If it starts its at least a running bike. If it does not start for whatever reason big or small it's a non-runner and my offer price would be heavily affected. I 've long gotten over the notion that every bike is worth saving and have no issue walking away from a deal if it's not right. 

If there are any red lights illuminated on the dash that would also factor into my offer.

And most of all does the bike have a clean/clear title in the seller name?. If the title is missing or in someone's names I don't even bother going to look.

Two valve or four? 09 is right at the change over so this is important.
IReplace the fuel and fit a new battery
Two keys would be great as coding in a second key can be hit or miss as my brother found out.
Check ECU and Dash error codes. Clear if you get it started and make sure they stay off. Entry code to dash should be 28315 ?

Is this the Norge in New Hope PA? If so looking at the FBMP ad it is now running and two yellow dash lights are on. Assuming one is low fuel the other, dog only knows the other. The good news is yellow is usually an "alert" where as red is "warning"

Yes, it’s the New Hope Norge, with the fluctuating price.

I appreciate the heads up on the lights, as I dont have FB.

I did find out that there is just one key.

09 should be 4V motor (2V head) I believe the Norge received the 8V motor in 2011.

The Code you mention gets you into the onboard diagnosis for the ECU and Dash. Different Codes for Each menu. Will show you logged (past) and current and you can delete the codes.

You need at least one functioning key that the Dash recognizes. You can program other keys to the Dash if you get a replacement, and AF1 Racing (I think) can get it cut from the VIN, but will take time.  The whole user code and key code can be confusing. 2 keys is best obviously.

How many miles and what is the condition?  What's the asking price?

VERY solid and reliable bike with a few issues others will know better than I as I have only owned 8V Norges.

A fantastic long distance and sweet riding and handling motorcycle.

Get Guzzidiag. It will tell you so much more than on board diagnostics.
There is a small bank of fuses dedicated to protecting the ECU. Have you checked them ?

Have not seen the bike in the flesh, it’s been a challenging communication, as there are several parties involved. Where is the fuse box?

2 keys are nice, but you can can have one clone copied even if the personal user code is not known.  The personal user code is needed to officially add OEM keys to the dash. 

user code was 00000 from MG, but now could be set to anything.   If its still 00000, you will get a reminder notice to change it for a few seconds at every key-on that goes away, it says  "please inert user code" for a few seconds.

Sellers often think low miles create exponential value and while low miles is nicer than high miles in most instances low mileage add a couple percent at best. This bike was discussed before and honestly at 4k 4.5K is a very healthy ask for a 17-1/2 year old fringe model from a fringe brand that less than 1% of the motorcycling community might be interested in. Then couple that with a severely depressed motorcycle then factor in that its been sitting and will need a healthy does of elbow grease and more money to get it right, nothing is helping this bike retain value.  Heck a set of tires and its going to need tires is going to be $600+/- for something remotely decent. IMHO the value of the bike substantially less than what the seller is asking and I'm sure the seller is going to get offended at any offer less than 3.8K because they have a low mileage rare exotic.

Yes, they believe, that with virtually no miles, they have a valuable unicorn.

At a bare minimum, it will need tires, and all fluids, filter changed.

 and I have a PERFECTLY running Norge with 50,000 miles and all the premium accessories, 2 keys and lifetime service record and NOT even 1 low ball offer from local  online media... LOL!!  *Yes. the public thinks low miles is a good thing. Not necessarily and not if let to rot.
