New Pads & Rotors
« on: October 02, 2026, 01:47:03 PM »
Well, after almost 10 years and 120K miles, and second set of pads, it was time for new pads and rotors.

Let's just say 120K miles was too long........... New Powerstop Z36 Towing/Performance Kit from Summit and I'm back in business.

Front

Rear

LOVE my MOTIVE Power Bleeder, that thing is worth its weight in Gold........... Had it 10 years and it makes changing brake fluid a snap and 1 man operation. I always flush the fluid with new pads on my cars/trucks. The Fluid coming out was only marginally darker than that going in.

Hoping for another 10 years and 120K miles on this beast.

I've had really good experiences with the PowerStop brand. They have become my "go to" for brake overhauls on cars/trucks.

Was it  a straight forward normal change out?
My 2017 Tundra will roll over 123000 tomorrow while in Canada hunting. All brakes and suspension parts are still original. The dealer says the brakes are only worn to 50% at the last oil change. I did do the fluid flush last year along with all the liquids from the front to the back.
Too bad the new ones aren't built like these 5.7's were.

Coated rotors! I just did this on a Rav4.
I went with smooth rotors. What's your take on the slotted and perforated rotors?
I read they can crack and make more noise.
They look wicked cool though

Steve, are you saying you're still running the original brake pads? I was on my original rotors, but I changed the pads at 60,000 mi ..

But to answer your question, yes removing the calipers was straightforward and pad replacement is very easy. You either need to have a strong impact air gun or a long breaker bar, especially to break loose the front caliper mounting bolts. Other than that, I was very impressed with how easily everything came apart.

The worst part of the job was lifting and replacing my 35-in. 110 lb wheels and tires back on.

I've had a lot of Guzzi's in my Tundra.
Yes, all original front and rear. Also 98% of the 123000 is all interstate.

Thankfully, WildGuzzi is much, much more than a Moto Guzzi only forum!!!

Think of it as attending a virtual university and you will learn far more than you ever expected to learn!!

Off topic threads should be marked as such. Or in a different section.
There used to be a time here when non guzzi content was marked as such in the title so you could tell.
If I see a title lads and rotors on a guzzi forum I expect the discussion to be about someone working on his bike.

Really off topic should be kept to a different section

The thread title is simply "New pads and rotors"
You should edit it to make it clear to anyone keen to participate in some Moto Guzzi knowledge that that this topic has zero to do with the forums topic

That's CRAZY.............. .  I've used mine for everything from my daily driver, commuter, towing, hauuling, off road and beach fun. I was thrilled that a near 7K pound truck went 60K miles on a set of pads.

All I've done on mine in the 120K+ is:

- Brake Pads & Fluid Flush (2x)
- Brake Rotors (1x)
- Plugs (1X)
- Trans/Diff Fluids (1X)
- Oil Changes every 5-7K

The truck drives, rides and looks as new. I'm getting ready to upgrade the AV system to a Tesla style center fablet.

LOOK at the icon to the left of the Thread Title.............. . Clearly marked as NGC.  But now that you know this is a NGC thread, feel free to look away.

They definitely make a bit more noise when driving not while braking, but just when rolling along when cold. This will supposedly lessen or so I'm told.  I could have gone for the smooth, but the drilled/slotted are supposed to be better for cooling and tow/haul, and yes, they look great.

I've read the same about drilled/slotted potentially cracking, but no experience with this happening when I've used them.

Well you know what Abe Lincoln and Al Gore said about the internet........... ...

It was Abe's review that motivated me to buy a Motive Power Bleeder so many years ago.

If you can't trust Honest Abe, who can you trust?
