It was how I looked and smelled when I lived up in the mountains, sometimes running nekkid into the river.
That helped scare away the bears.

Well... not fancy.. spur of the moment.

Was reading the Dan Simmons Hyperion series. Shrike is the bringer of pain and redemption, an anti hero of sorts.

It suited my mindset at the time. lol

Relatively few riders are lucky enough to discover that there is a lot more to a lifetime of motorcycling enjoyment than just going fast. Those who do... become "motorcyclists".  The rest just happen to be riding a motorcycle.

Nick name I was given by some crusty old fart I used to work with when I was in college. Now that I am getting older and a little bit crusty, it helps me return to a more youthful place of mind.

Last name.  Got it from Dad.

First name.   Got it from great-uncle Lannis Durrence, born Georgia 1914.

I always use my own name on BBs and Internet lists.   Keeps me accountable!

**C  I originally signed on as "Nilknarf" which is my middle name spelled backwards, and that was causing some consternation, so since I used to live in an area where Turkey Creek ran nearby and I still hunt along Turkey Creek , I came up with "Turkey Creek Dave" . It's also my moniker for CAS events. (Cowboy Action Shooting)

I don't believe in hiding behind a screen name either. Nothing unique other than I don't use periods, stopped using them in high school. I came home from the hospital as AJ, always been AJ. My great grandfather was Allen Jackson, and went by AJ. My parents liked it I guess and turned my Allen James into AJ. I've never liked the name but never came up with anything better.  :-\

In theory I don't believe in screen names. But real-world experience shows me there are stalkers and flamers out there who can make your life miserable. See this:

I'm the Seth referred to. This experience forced me out of several online venues and may have cost me a couple of job interviews.  Now I'm pretty cautious about forum involvements in general.

I do understand. My rule of thumb is, moderated forum, I use my real name. Unmoderated forum, I use a screen name. I've only had troubles once.

That's a good rule, and it's why I'm willing to identify myself here.  Not with my real name on forum discussions, but in personal messages.

Aha! So you're the reason I couldn't get that name.    Mmmmm... Balvenie Doublewood and Balvenie 21 YO, my favorite scotches.  I'm taking a wee smidgent of Doublewood to Elkader.

Noki \ NO-key\ noun 1. slang Resident of the Lake Nokomis area of Minneapolis, Minnesota.  2. noun An award given out by the Nokomis East Neighborhood Association (where I work)

People in my motorcycle club started to call me Guzzi-Leif in the late 70ties cause they found me a bit fanatic about the italian brand.
And yes, my first name is Leif - same as the first explorer of America, Leif Eriksson, the viking  ;-)
Kept my name even the years I rode Yamaha and BMW...

Furbo:..well, it sounds kinda round & fuzzy...which is not a bad description....unfo rtunately....

It's Italian for "some one who understands how to work the system for their own ends". It's someone who can skirt the rules to an almost criminal limit - but is still held in high regard for doing so....very Italian. There really is no english one-word equivelent.
