Your son is lucky!
I plan to ride the wheels off mine as our best riding weather is upon us for the next 8 months. Then off to nars in cottonwood and datil this summer, and at least one trip to big bend.
Enjoy life!

THB I don't think I would want to ride a "bone stock" 1100 sport nor would I recommend it to anyone other than a collector and with such low miles it might be worth considering as a collectors item if you can afford the money and space to have it stashed, although if you wanted to be a real train spotter about it the 94's with their colour coded forks would be the one to have. They are an old school guzzi while the Cali EV's and latter V11's benefited from some fettles they could quiet reasonably be a turn key and go proposition. The last of the carbed sporting bikes and to a similar extent the early injected sporting bikes needed sorting out before they were reasonably rideable all sorts of tuning horrors we inflicted them from the showroom to get through the emission regs of the time.

I really, really don't like the "colour coded" fork sliders on the '94 Sport 1100s.  Looks tacky to my eye.

The cool thing about getting a "bone stock" Sport 1100 is that you know no one has hacked it up.  No one has tossed the air box.  No one has swapped out the handlebars or drilled the top clamp.  No one had cut up the wiring harness.

For me, all that a stock Sport 1100 carb needs are Keihin FCR41 carbs, full Staintune exhaust, WP spring kit for the forks.

Otherwise, it's a solid basic durable machine.

Pretty much however the do benefit from a set of 999 callipers and a 16mm master cylinder, personally I'd be a bit wary of anything ultra low miles/kms 20years old, it means it been sitting for a very long time at some point and that rarely improves the functionality of any bike. A set of lighter weight wheels I think would improve things no end as well.

I bought a red 96 Sport in 98 with just 3000 miles on it. I parked it about 9 years ago with 124,000 miles. It was the most solid, reliable, and fun bike I had ever owned. But some problems eventually cropped up forcing me to shut her down for a while. There was no urgency because I had another good running bike in the garage and now have 3 other good running bikes in the garage. Time marches on and I have finally retired from work. She still looks as good as the first day I laid eyes on her and now I have the time to massage her back into service.
Some question the durability of the transmission with the straight cut gears. The transmission is solid. It was meant for racing. The problem some had was the Sport has no cush drive. If you don't keep the gears under load you get some backlash. Especially in 5th gear. That backlash fractured the gear over time leading to its demise. I'll never forget reading the owner's manual of an 89 Lemans I used to own. On the second page it stated: This bike was designed to be a race bike and should be ridden as such. I carried that philosophy over to the Sport and it served me well.

I sure love mine so far. I was laughing at a post elsewhere about the sport clutch lever force required, and my buddy with a sport too also laughed as he agreed that its smooth as silk and a baby could operate it.... compared to a 70's Maico. Ha! We laugh. Its all perspective.

This is good stuff. Maybe I won't sell mine after all, and just accept it is only going to get <2000 miles a year.

I have been getting my wife used to the idea that my Bassa will break sooner or later, and I'll need to decide whether to fix it or get another. Or get another to ride until I fix it.

Last night I showed her pictures of Le Mans, Sport V11, and Scura.

Does this count as brainwashing?
That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

Yep, she wouldn't like the back seat on any of those nearly as well as the Bassa..

Well, at least THAT won't be a problem. I took the back seat off the Bassa and only ride it solo.

Although I think we're going to have to buy her a scooter before too long...

Mine hasn't even been started for years since I "put it up" some time back.  Hell, I just like looking at it even if not riding it. It sits on a back patio and makes me smile nearly every day.

So, it's currently reduced to lawn art - I still enjoy the ownership.

Arron,
I am pulling my '97 out of long term storage to do the paint and the intent is to sell it as I never ride it anymore.  If it does not sell then I will have it nice a shiny to look at in the living room...

I know these Sport and Sporti models desrerve better than to so as a peice of art and just be viewed but that is what they are.  Art on two wheels.

Like you, when the time comes I'll figure it out.

" do the paint " ?

What color is it now ? You could just ship it to me, and I'll wax it and store it for you

We've already got precedent - I can pay the shipping...

It is red but might, might go to black...  I never did care for the shade of red as the PO had painted it and I just don't think it was correct.  I love the look of a Sporti in a red dress but I like the black as well.

We'll see...

Shipping...?

You know that I rode the V11 Cali home to Maine, right...?   :bike-037:

Folks,
I'll chime in and revive an old thread. Bought new in late '94, one of the first anywhere. Full Staintune system; Braking rotors; Mikuni HSR42s, 390 cam, Ti pushrods from Raceco; lots of finish work. Though it had major leaks every time I took it on long road trips--rear drive main seal, tranny output seal--out of 13 hard-core sport bikes owned, it's the one I still miss. And I sold a Ducati 851 to buy it.

95 w/ staintunes, love the sound but not easy getting the carbs sorted. Sports and Daytonas are (IMHO) the most beautiful sport bikes, even if they were "Dinosaurs" when new (Pete Roper quote).
