Hi, Kip! It's a pretty boring 700 or so miles on the slab. Since Dorcia is going, our long distance riding adventures have been over for years. We'll put the bike in the van and pull the camper. We will more than likely take two days, though. Old people need to get out and do a walkabout at least every two hours, etc. We'd be pretty boring company to travel with, but you're welcome..

I'd use US-136 to Filley, NE then South on NE-4 to NE-99 which becomes KS-99 down to US-166...much more scenery and small-town goodness than the Interslab...

From my garage to Hewins Pavilion is 651 miles, taking the most direct route.

My thought on this was to maybe make that 800 give 'r take, and take your approach, generally. Still got time. Boss told me I need to be using my vacation time. Well, awrighty then

I'll take Ca 58 to Barstow, I40 to Tucumcari. Us 54 to 160. Then Us 81 to 166 to CV...Wx permitting.
1550 miles +-.

'bout two days with good WX. (probably have a hard time matching that in the WACO)

Yer an animal, Mike.  :thumb: The Waco would be considerably easier on your body, but I think the runway at Cedar Vale International needs improvement. Probably that is included in Dusty's master plan..

Or just cut down a couple trees in the park...
The best part of riding a motorcycle is to tilt the horizon and to lift the front coming out of a corner and to drift the back end powering thru loose dirt and to catch a little air topping a hill and... yeah it's all good!

Me and a pal are considering making the trip down (and over) from SW Ontario.  Is there a hotel in town? Although we both are the camping type as well.

Yes, and a cheap one!

There are houses for short term rental also .

Hewins Park is however perfect for camping .

JJ.. old people  really *do* need to walk around every 2 hours or so to keep from having blood clots. That's what got Commie Nick, and he wasn't that old. 1000 miles in 15 hours doesn't leave much time for that..

Hi Chuckster -

You are talking to a guy that for >25+ years flew regularly on planes (in economy class) 9-10 hours to Japan...10-12 to Taiwan / South Korea...and 16-18 hours to Singapore!!  Wheeeeeeee!!!  Let's talk about cramping and not moving around!!  Although, on those long flights, one DOES have to get up and walk a lot!!

I used to have to wear "compression socks" to avoid DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis!!)    Don't worry about me!  If that did not kill me...nothing will!!  Besides, maybe we will just trailer the bikes out to Cedar Vale, so we can bring all our camping gear!

Besides, we would talk 1-2 days to get there...not a straight shot!!

A good point Chuck.

I usually go closer to three.  However, after a serous injury I developed a DVT in my calf, not recommended.  I did late develop, at different times, two shallow vein clots.  Both were behind the knee.  After the second one my GP put me on asprin as there was absolutely no reason as to why they should have occurred.  I have now dropped to 2 - 2.1/2 because of the dangers of clots.

These days I regularly stretch out my legs, stand on pegs etc, not for comfort but to keep the blood flowing.

400 miles is plenty,  maybe 395 if it's on the Interstate.
