200 miles of twisted road covered. Me and my pal Steve flying the Italian flags.
Me on the mighty GRiSO, and him with his 250cc Aprilia.
Saw this little innocent looking thing in the middle of the road..

Finally getting close to getting rid of that stupid KLR.

Austin has learned a *lot* about how engines work, tolerances, etc. He's beginning to become a mechanic instead of a parts changer.  :thumb:
I've learned a lot about patience. This all started in mid December when he asked if he could use the shop while I was out in California for 3 weeks.. :weiner: ok ok, I'll shut up about it.
And, no, Lucky Phil.. I never said a word about painting it, much less RED.

Yestefday they had me scheduled for an MRI to see if my lower back was healing. I get done with the first 45 min session and I'm powered out. I didn't know if I was in Oklahoma or Okinawa. She said you can sit up and I sat up and immediately rolled off to the floor landing on my bad elbow that has the radial head in it. Bruised at least one rib, but thankfully the wrist is OK.

Of all the luck. I go in for a MRI and come out worse than I used to from a bar fight!

Things will get better,Tex

Yesterday, after Austin said the electricals weren't compatible  between the two engines, I changed out the rotor, stator, wiring, etc. to push this project along. I'm more than tired of having the shop full of junk KLR parts. Last night, we put oil in it, and cranked it until oil came out the head banjo. The plug was making sparks, so I assume it will run. Nobody will ever convince me that a KLR is simple. (!)

Strangely enough, I wore a Guzzi t shirt to a river conservation meeting last night, and a guy said, "Guzzi, eh? Don't see many of those." He went on to say he'd ridden in all 49 states and all the provinces of Canada eh? on a
wait for it..

Glad someone of you mechanical ability agrees with me..

Did you ever get sealed into a barrel with a swarm of wasps and a bushel of rocks and then rolled down a hill?  That's how my day has gone for the past month, except I also have to roll the barrel back up the hill for the next ride.

Sounds as though you have had a rough time of it RK. Hope your days improve.

I almost hate to say it but mine went well. My mate picked me up for the scooter run with the two bikes on the trailer. We got to the starting point, looked at the assembled scooters and decided that ours were more suited to the "clip-on" section. My mates Norman is after all only a single speed. The day was warm, the company great and it was very therapeutic trundling along at 40-45 kms/hr. Life in the slow lane. I could look at the scenery, smell the roses and generally do those things that are liable to kill you at Moto Guzzi speeds. Lunch at the mid point of the ride.

The bikes went well but the "sport" NSU I was on with the C100 engine in it could do with some tweaking. We had two C100's for years and I still have the tools and knowledge to get them to perform as they should. My mate had just cobbled it in to the frame and it went , so that was the sum total of his tuning. Booked in to go out and have a blokes day in his workshop soon.

On Thursday night we rode to the movies, as usual, to see Red Sparrow (predictable but entertaining).  Friday night was a ride to partake in Motorcycles On Main, a local town's monthly bike night.  It's fun to see the VW trikes, custom mods and paint jobs, but in the three times we've attended, only 1 Guzzi (other than Anni) was spotted.  Anni always receives a lot of attention, but I let her bask in it solo rather than miss strolling the boulevard.  We also ran into Nate, the salesman that my husband bought his CTX from and his girlfriend, which was a nice surprise.

Tomorrow, assuming a child doesn't come up ill (again), we'll ride to the Arizona MGNOC monthly breakfast.  I'm usually clueless regarding what the regulars are chatting about, but I'm sure to pick up some useful tidbit.

:bike-037: The MGNOC ride should break the 1000 mile mark, and then some, for my Anni.

Lovely day in the flatlands. I got to ride each of the bikes on a nice warm up circuit around the edge of town. Yep, my face is tired from grinning. I guess I'll have to soothe it with some fermented sugar  cane renderings.

We finally have a real (skier's) winter here. Two days of prime powder skiing at Snowmass, in about four inches of fluff (six inches in the woods) over a sweet soft surface. And fast new skis! Happy to say that at 69 I can still put the young guys (59?) to shame in tight trees and chutes. Archangel understands.

Sporty driving over McClure pass on packed snow and ice. That road has neither guard rails nor markers, which is why they don't plow at night. The freeze-thaw cycle pries the rocks apart and early mornings see sharp-cornered boulders all over the pavement.

On the other hand it's dry with warm afternoons at home. The snowbank on the north side of barn has melted away, providing access to the door on that side. Thursday/Friday forecast is sunny and 57F, so I'm freshening up the batteries and expect to get the F650 on the road.

Teaching at Vail next week, all week, then off to Squaw Valley!

A good one thanks Dusty.

A quick trip down to the local hardware store for a pack of roofing screws for a project and take the long way home on the Breva to warm the fluids prior to a 500km overdue change.

Change fluids. A concern is the colour of the gearbox oil. Quite grey where it should be golden. Towards the end of my last 1200km trip I thought I could hear a whining in all gears at certain speeds. A bit of a worry after the problems I have had with it.

Got my project storage area built for my project CT200 Honda ag bike out of old pallets with a sheet of iron left over from our re-roof of the house. Cleaned the area up nicely and now have more space to store firewood and garden paraphernalia.

Mowed lawns and weeded garden.

Cut up the remainder of some firewood that needed cutting ready for winter.

Made a couple of firewood racks to hold it all.

Drank some very nice wine to finish a satisfying day where all went well. :thumb: (barring the colour of the gearbox oil :undecided:)

I told Austin that the two most dangerous tools in the shop are a drill press and a common screwdriver. I don't think he believed me on that screwdriver thing. So what did he do?  Fortunately didn't require stitches, although you could see stuff moving around under the wound. Patched him up as best I could and took him to his mom, who is a nurse..

I think we have all skewered ourselves at some point Chuck. Keep this up and his mom might not let him near your place!

Dusty, if it is going tits up again I will spew. I have no idea why it would. When we replaced the faulty pre-select lever Steamdriven and myself painstakingly checked everything. Kev is an aircraft engineer and most certainly knows what he is doing. Surely not even Luigi would send out two sets of faulty gears...... :undecided:

At least the mileage is higher than when it first shat itself.

We've had a nice weekend. On Friday I got the Mille and the F650 running and on Saturday morning took the small bike about 10 miles out Minnesota Creek Road into grazing territory.

Got home and Gail wanted a ride, so we did the Crawford-Hotchkiss loop on the Mille. Photo is the scenic Kroger's parking lot in Hotchkiss. Heading out again this afternoon for a two-up exploratory toward Lamborn Mesa.

how to post a picture in a forum online site

We've determined that the rectangular pannier boxes aren't big enough for both of us so I guess that puts me in the market for a Hepco Becker rig to fit the Mille. Moto Machines has the rack and 42-liter boxes side boxes for about a grand. Any other recommendations?
