Not native here either.  Introduced by Penn State, I heard, in a foolish attempt to control something else.  Wasn't there an old Looney Tunes cartoon like that?

He lost the run of himself.

I'll trade anyone 50 lbs of those little colorful beetles for 5 lbs of what are known as Palmetto Bugs in the deep south . Yeah , we have been invaded by those giant winged roaches , they are an invasive species , they damned things are everywhere , there was one in the pavilion in Cedar Vale last September . They are NOT supposed to be here , someone please come get them and take them home . Thanks .

When my Mother-in-law moved down from Wisconsin a flying roach flew at her.  Thought she was going to have a stroke.  She passed in Oct and we're still finding the giant industrial strength roach traps stuffed in every nook and cranny of her apartment.

Glad we don't have them in Yankeedom. I'm told that you need to kill them with the first shot, as they've been known to charge when wounded...

Wintered in Arizona, NW. of Phoenix, staying in place till the country opens up again.  We have no roaches but the honey bees are swarming and looking for new hive locations.  I came home 2 days ago to find them swarming around the back of our travel trailer.  They were trying to climb inside the underbelly of the trailer to build a hive.  Got some hornet spray and went to work on them.  I like honey but not that much.

We have a large native grub called the huhu grub which lives in rotting wood.  The adult form are nicknamed "haircutters". A bit over 2" long, 4 wings and the noise that they make as thw wings hits the carapace is a really loud clatter.  Spotlighting at night is somewhat fraught; you can hear them coming from quite a distance and they aim for the light.  If they miss and end up in your hair the spikes on their legs get tangled up and you have this 2" long beetle crawling around on your scalp panicking.   Horrible things.

The grubs are served up at wild food festivals; I am told they taste like peanut butter.

Looks like a Downeast boat. Them rope cutters on the shaft work? I'm putting my boat engine back together (350 Chevy). Had an exhaust manifold leak coolant into one cylinder bank. Honing and reringing. Come on, summer!

Excellent thanks Dusty. Spent the day reading/recording part of the novel 'Wacousta' by John Richardson - to be the third in my series of non-hiking, non-motorcycling audiobooks.

It's very non-PC, as it was written in 1832 about events which occurred in 1763 (Pontiac's siege of Detroit and Michilimackinac) and is full of all the objectionable class, race and gender attitudes and misconceptions typical of the time.  Nevertheless, it's regarded as Canada's first novel, thus has its own historical significance.  And despite the interminable, convoluted, complex sentences,is fun to grapple with.  And I get to massacre multiple voices and accents :boozing:

Some of you know about the murder I witnessed and the subsequent hearing . The defendant has requested a jury trial , which begins on Wednesday . The hearing was pretty straight forward , the trial will likely take a couple of days .

Here is a question , just noticed on the summons that there is a witness fee available , is it morally reprehensible to accept the fee ? The jurors get a small fee , the judge and lawyers involved get paid . What say you guys ?

I don't see that any differently as  jury duty. A small stipend for your time, period.   If it weighs on you, donate it to the ASPCA

You are doing your duty and putting in time. Take it with no remorse and use it anyway you see fit. I was paid minimum wage and mileage for being a voting poll worker last election. Didn't make me rich but I can always find a good use for what I got. I feel that I worked for it.

A beautiful day! Took the LeMans to the gas station for a fill-up and then rode it for a while just to make sure the gas was good.
Then connected my old Sony receiver to some Bose speakers in the garage, with the optical connection from the computer now I can jam the Pandora!

The multiple juror's fee/stipend checks I've received in the past were nominal.  A witness fee is may be no different, unless it's based upon a reward or schedule of compensation based upon the crime (like the % of fine/recovery of an successful IRS case due to the originally-reporting complainant).  Regardless, It's an honest transaction and all about honesty.  Me, I have no qualms about being compensated in such a way.  Do what makes you feel comfortable.

As mentioned, it's simple to pass it on to another recipient.  The small city where we normally have our bike rally has a (crime) victim's advocate to help guide victims of reported crime through unfamiliar territory, as well as a victim's assistance fund to help support resolution of their situations.    The fund is supported in part by a percentage of fines collected by the city police, but other donations are much appreciated.  Edit- There's probably a similar victim assistance fund in your area.

That looks better than the view out my home office (AKA the workshop) at the moment where its raining with thunder forecast

Still I find that working from home has its benefits
a) 23 second commute
b) Nice view of the garden rather than the corrugated iron wall the other side of the road
c) Home early (another 23 s commute) so more opportunities to do stuff (ride bike) in the evening

Good luck with getting the crop in though GJ
