Loaded the mighty Nismo today for  a trip to eastern Ohio/Western Pa. I might be giving my sidecar rig to my son, if'n he displays any aptitude for driving it safely. Hope to take a trip to the ancestral farm, in Westmoreland County. Its been in the family since the late 1700s.  Time to see family and old friends. Cheers!

Have fun Shorts!

Fabulous Dusty - thanks. Convert is running a treat. Barely even leaks now (and yes, there is ATF in the tank). Rode much of the day on narrow gravel 'colonization' roads. People who've never ridden a Convert have no idea what a treat they are missing.

Nick

PS The colonization roads didn't achieve much. Even though it was free, the land was too barren, tough and the winters too cold for settlement ever to gain much of a hold. The area is full of abandoned farmsteads and old wrecked log cabins now. As for the FN?  they knew better than to try and extract a living from those areas - except for a bit of seasonal hunting.

Yep , never build a house where the FN never lived , it will either flood , burn , or be completely barren .

When a loaf of crusty bread is properly baked and removed from the oven, residual interior steam will cause the crust to crackle and even whistle slightly as pressure is released.  The bread sings for the baker.

My wonderful wife just got back from the hospital to see my uncle.  His pneumonia continues to improve and he's still - negative.  She wants clam linguine for lunch.  Fresh bread makes it better. My bread is singing so loud I can hear it in the next room...

What a great day.

Great day! 2 hour ride on the EV, brought home some locally grown sweet corn, tomatoes and squash. Backed the Mustang Convert out of the garage for an evening drive, rains came about 10 minutes later, Mustang back in the garage. It was still a great day.  :thumb:

Not great. Went over the bars on the dirt bike. Bruises only but I'm moving slowly. Maybe I am too old for this.

That your'e moving is a very good sign that you will be OK.  Were you on the '83 XR350? Great bike! I bought an '85 new, rode the snot out of it for 4 years, spit me off a few times but never left me stranded on the trail. You are living in the middle of some of  the greatest riding there is. I have ridden a lot out of Taylor Park, will be there again in September.

Had a good morning, headed west on old 66 to my regular stop at Spencer, Mo. it was nice and cool on Turnback creek  :thumb:

Then off to Miller, Mo. to The Hanger, it was a busy place with aircraft buzzing in and out and an antique tractor meet

Thanks all. Moving better this morning, using up the naproxen and neosporin. The XR350 needs new fork tubes.

Today in history, July 13th 1941, was the day my friend's grandfather brought down his third Luftwaffe plane.

His military record shows that he was the worst aircraft mechanic in German air force history.

Now that's funny!

My grandfather's friend died quietly in his sleep, unlike his passengers.

Today I find there is a big yellow ball in the sky.  Fairly low on the horizon but it is bright enough to be able to see by.  Looks like I won't need my flippers and wet suit today.

It was a gooood day...I finally got the Stone running.  After 6 yrs idle they need some work.  I went to the gas station, well, one block short, out of gas.  It runs good, but there are still some issues to sort out. ( slow leaking tire) etc.    :boozing:

Squash, zucchini, blackberries, radishes, spinach, carrots, cucumbers, and beets are either in or still coming in ... Tomatoes were doing well, just thriving when I left the house Friday morning, so I made sure they were suckered and tied up nice ... Came back from a Guzzi weekend, went out Monday morning and the whole tops were stripped off the plants and stems, flowers, and leaves missing everywhere.   At first I thought "DEER"! even though I've never had deer bother the tomatoes before, then I saw some kind of black dung balls spread all over the ground.

Then I looked closer and was shocked to see giant caterpillar/worm things on the plants!   They were the size and length of two fat thumbs end-to-end, the biggest worms I'd ever seen .... CUTWORMS!   There were only three of them but they destroyed a dozen tomato plants in two days while I wasn't looking.    I almost thought I was going to have to take a .22 to kill them, but they squash like water-balloons on the ground, and a bit of Sevin spray should take care of any others.   So maybe I'll get a few tomatoes if the plants survive ...  Habaneros, yellow peppers, beans, blackeye peas, corn, and okra are doing well, shouldn't be too long.

Sounds like you have a pretty big patch Lannis, bummer on the worms! We're getting some peppers too, we had a strange spring, cold and really wet. Got a late start. Last year we had deer jump our chain link fence and eat the tops off our pepper plants, but didn't touch the habenaro plant, I wonder why??? Schnauzers never noticed : (

I used to inject huge fat tomato worms with rubbing alcohol.  They would relax and stretch out to about 3 times their length.
oh, and eat no more tomatoes.

Gail is none too pleased about the scrapes and bruises. We had a heart-to-heart about my state of denial regarding age. I promised to rein it in.

Truth is that age-denial extends beyond riding style. I'm in better shape than most of my friends, so I've been pissed and depressed about periodontal work and other indignities.

Meanwhile I've learned that parts for an old Honda dirtbike are WAY cheaper than for Guzzis. Whodda thunk?

If you keep riding dirt bikes Seth, you'd do well to get yourself a rig with a modern suspension that's tuned to you're weight. It makes a BIG difference in handling. I watched a buddy do an OTB right in front of me on a HONDA like yours, the front end just compressed and off he went. We spent the rest on the day in urgent care, pulling his boot off was a new experience in pain for him, we were glad it wasn't filled with blood.
