Lannis- great to hear about your day.  Some of my projects are pre-need.  Most aren't.  some drag out for years for a variety of reasons.  The current record from first call to actual commission/finished stone is 13 yrs for stone I finished last Monday.  Stone arrived in studio around the first of May.

Anything that can be done to smooth the road for your successors, from cleaning up & eliminating your stuff to  finances/legal to cemetery, is something everyone needs to do.   It doesn't have to be elaborate, just done.

Yep.   Lord knows, even though we have had a very friendly and cooperative family, and my brother and sister and I were 100% together on caring for my mother at the end, and disposing of her property afterwards, there are still a LOT of things that need to be done so that your family will think "Wow, I'm sure glad he took care of that.   What a guy!" once you're gone (if that sort of thing matters to you   :undecided: ).

1) Make sure that any insurance or investments (IRAs, annuities, etc) you own have very clear beneficiaries OR joint owners, so that nothing has to be done to "transfer" it with the accompanying hassle and taxes to someone else.

2) Once you're at the point where other people are helping you with your daily business, like paying bills and such, make your bank accounts and car titles joint with you and whoever is helping.   Again, that way, when you're gone, no one has to do anything, they just carry on and leave your name off the checks when they order more.

3) Make sure you have a clear will and standing orders (like Tex has done) for if you can't make decisions for yourself.   Mine says that if I can still communicate, even if it's just nodding or winking, to keep me going until I say so.   If I CAN'T communicate, unplug it all and let the old body wind down.   I know a guy who set up his wife at home with IVs and such, and she lay there twitching and screaming for 2 years, completely out of it.   I can't imagine a worse hell on earth for both of them, even though he felt like he "was doing the right thing".

Believe me, it's the best thing you can do for the people who have to deal with you and your stuff after you're gone!

I can't speak for every situation, but we literally went to the 2-3 banks with Dad as he went into hospice.  By adding our names onto his accounts, those accounts weren't probated.  Little things like that and having all titled property as joint ownership with "or" instead of "and" are cheap & simple (compared to trusts, LLC, and other structures) and avoid so much monkey business.   We missed one of Dad's accounts with about $250.00 in it and had to probate it...

My 90 yo Uncle Norman died 2 wks ago Sat. He was ready to be done.  We miss him already, but all is good.  Lots to do, but much of it was already well-structured.  That's a big help.

A friend sent me a link to this song by The Steel Woods a few months ago.  I like it a lot- https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Tt8nE5ZrlSg. They do a cover of Tom Petty's "Southern Accent" that I like much better than the original. Good band.

Man, I hate that. Hope you are going to be ok, John. That's certainly one of the problems. Some get it and hardly or don't even know it. Others get it and die. Take care of yourself..

Finishing touches went on the shed I put up to store the pushbikes, electric bikes and the Guzzi.  3.6mt x 3mt kitset tin shed.  All went well from the concreting to the build and now the shelves.  Have just built some wooden ones that could take a battleship (just in case) and so now the shed is complete.  All the bike travel gear is in there now and suddenly there is a heap more room in the main garage.  Her ladyship is real happy with the extra room, especially since she always parks her Suzuki Swift on an angle.

Another job off the honey-do list. :thumb:  And now, start organising the main garage! :thumb:

Bled the rear brake on the Norge again today (only lasted 600 miles since last time) then took it on a test ride up a scenic canyon on the outskirts of town.  Currently we and the toyhauler are parked in Vernal Utah for a month or so till its cool down enough to go back to Texas.

Got back from a weeks vacation expecting to be slammed, but my staff did a great job keeping the department going. While I was on vacation I crossed off a bucket list item I never thought that I would. I went to a pirate museum and touched real pirate treasure! https://www.discoverpirates.com/ Awesome artifacts and the story behind them!

Bravo Chuck! Looking good.
I haven't built a wood rib in years always metal. But I remember the satisfaction of getting those ribs right!

I helped a friend do a tailwind wing some time ago..a lot of work but the thing is still flying so guess we did it right.

Well that's the plan at any rate.  You would be surprised at how strong a structure like this can be.

The above is the same basic structure loaded to 6 Gs.   Yeah, he designed full span flaperons, but the ribs, spars, fittings, etc. are the same.
I thought you were a model airplane guy, Lannis?

Yes, I've built many a wing in the past ... but there's a WEE bit of difference in the application.

If one's Gieseke Nobler control-line plane comes apart under the stress of a tight loop, it's "Oh well, back to the building board ...." !!

Sort of like the pig and chicken discussing their commitment to a breakfast of bacon and eggs ... !!
